Morrigeth tried her best to rub the sleep from her eyes as she padded down the hallway toward the library. She'd discovered long ago that it made a useful shortcut when travelling to her bedroom. Not because the trip was any faster. Because no one would notice that she'd gotten out of bed at all. She licked her sharp teeth, the taste of blood wine still fresh in her mouth. The drink had been practically mandatory after the mess that was that day. Morrigeth couldn't imagine GenTwo as an Angel. She was just so... Ugh! Everything that Morrigeth tried to tell her she wouldn't even give a chance. It was like talking to a wall. She hadn't thought it possible to make absolutely no progress in an entire day. The only evidence that the day had even happened was Morrigeth's stress rising to the point that she'd resorted to drinking her problems away.
This train of though halted when Morrigeth's ears caught a soft rustle. Her eyes followed the direction of the sound to find a small humanoid figure rummaging through one of the many shelves of books. The panicked way it turned to look back at her told Morrigeth this wasn't a servant.
"Hey!" she shouted. She lightly rubbed her fingers together, producing a brilliant ball of electricity that floated just above her hand. It cast a yellow light over the area where she stood, allowing her to make out the faint image of GenTwo, who had fallen to the floor in shock. Just as she'd thought.
"What are you doing up?" Morrigeth asked.
GenTwo's response was nothing more than a soft "Uh..." She wasn't making eye contact with Morrigeth, her gaze set just to Morrigeth's right.
Morrigeth walked closer to her. She glanced over at the books that GenTwo had dropped and used her free hand to pick one up. "'Angel Physiology,' huh?" She picked up another. "'Physics of Heaven?'" She flipped through it. "Looks a little above your reading level." She narrowed her eyes in suspicion. "What are you up to?"
She expected GenTwo to fire back some sort of insult or snide comment as she had done throughout the day. Instead, she just stared at Morrigeth's right hand, trembling and eyes wide.
Morrigeth looked over at her hand, which was sustaining the ball of electricity. "What?"
GenTwo gave no response other than a small whimper.
"Are you... Are you afraid of this?" Morrigeth asked as she held her hand out so the sparks crackled closer to GenTwo, who scooted away from them. This didn't make any sense. "You know it can't hurt you, right? You can control electricity, too. Why are scared?"
"I never said I was! I just... I-I know what you can do with that stuff."
"What are you ta-" Morrigeth stopped herself, realizing what GenTwo meant. Seeing the person that raised you get electrocuted probably would do that to someone, wouldn't it? Great, yet another layer to Morrigeth's impossible task. How was GenTwo supposed to become the next Guardian Angel of Electricity if she was scared of it? But more importantly, how deeply had she really affected this kid? Morrigeth wanted to hit herself. What was wrong with her? The list of reasons she was the worst Angel ever kept getting longer and longer. As Morrigeth thought of this, she hardly noticed GenTwo scamper away, several books in hand.
GenTwo read through the paragraph for the fifteenth time before throwing the book off her bed in frustration. It fell in the pile with a thud. That was the last of the books she had taken, and she didn't want to take her chances with going back to get more. Not with Morrigeth lurking the halls. She hadn't been kidding about the whole "reading level" thing. At least she'd gotten the important information, for the most part. She flopped back on the bed as she went over what she'd learned, combining it with what the Angels had told her.
