/Time seemed to reach a stand still for Ella as she flitted in and out of consciousness. Something was wrong with the baby, she knew that for sure but she was too tired to focus on anything. Steve's face blurred into and out of her vision in between the blackness. She wanted nothing more than to comfort him, to remove the horror etched into his features but she simply couldn't find the strength. She had to fight for him, for their son but fighting had never seemed more difficult than it did now. She was vaguely aware of Steve's arms cradling her as he carried her out of the room she was being held in. Ella heard Bruce's orders to get her on the quinjet where Natasha was to pilot them to the nearest SHIELD medical facility.
Everything was just too much. It felt like she was drowning, darkness surrounding her and holding her down until she couldn't fight it any longer. At one point she could have sworn she heard her mother's voice calling out to her. Ella tried to fight, she really did but honestly she was so numb and tired she doubted if anyone could even tell what she was going through. Ella let her mind wonder, she really didn't have much of a choice in the matter, but she wondered what would have happened if she hadn't have taken up Tony's offer at staying with him in the first place. What would she have done with her life? Would she have a normal job, something in computing maybe? Would she have a group of normal friends and spend her Saturday nights watching movies with them and eating take-out? Would she be dating someone? Would she love them like she loved Steve? The love that was all consuming and beautiful and pure? Thinking about it; that one decision to spend the summer with her brother turned out to be the biggest deciding factor in her life so far – it was the choice that every other decision had stemmed from.
Despite all the chaos and questions rolling around in her head there was one that she couldn't answer and couldn't seem to shake: Would she be happy? If she never came here, instead choose to start over in a different city with a normal life would she be happy?
If Ella could have rolled her eyes she would have. What the hell? She was in trouble, their baby was in danger and here she was debating the meaning of her life? Some mother she would make, this kid wasn't even here yet and she was already screwing it up. She needed to fight, for herself, for Steve, for their son because the truth was everything happened for a reason. This was her life and she was happy and she wouldn't have it any other way.
She'd be damned if she was giving up now.

"Someone help us!" Bruce called out as he ran through the entrance of the SHIELD medical bay frantically, the rest of the avengers following behind him with Ella limp in Steve's arms.
Thanks to Natasha's crazy piloting skills they had managed to make the journey in less than 15 minutes but Ella seemed to take a turn for the worst on the way there. She was now unconscious and still bleeding and Bruce hated himself for the fact he had no idea what to do to help the girl in the super soldier's arms. Thor and Clint had stayed behind at the Hydra base to wait for a back-up SHEILD team to take care of things and start with the clean up while everyone else rushed to the quinjet.
Two nurses in scrubs stopped their conversation immediately as they noticed the avengers looking bloody and battered enter the facility, quickly rushing over to their aid.
"She's in labour and has lost a lot of blood. I've tried to keep her stable but she fell unconscious on the way over here." Bruce explained to the nurse nearest to him. She nodded looking at the girl in Steve's arm and the blood staining her clothes and his.
"I need a trolley over here now! We need to get this girl into theatre!" She called over as another nurse rushed a trolley over to them. The nurse with the trolley approached Steve cautiously; the soldier barely registered what was happening. He hadn't spoken since he saw the blood in the holding cell. The nurse reached out to take Ella from his arms causing Steve to glare at him and clutch the girl tighter to his chest.
