8 years later

Ella hummed happily to herself as she continued buttering the bread in front of her. She could hear the laughter and noise of her family from upstairs which only made her smile more. It had been a crazy wonderful few years for her and Steve and Ella wouldn't have traded them for anything. After James was born life carried on as normal, well as normal as it can be when you live with a bunch of superheroes anyway. Steve was an amazing father, not that she had any doubts about that but he was truly amazing. His family came first, Steve always insisted it was his number one rule and Ella couldn't help but feel her heart flutter at those words. Of course her and Steve fought sometimes, everyone did but they always made up in the end because really what did it matter if Steve didn't tell her how many risks were really involved in his mission or if Ella forgot to mention Johnny had stopped by for a visit. They were happy and life was good.

Tony and Pepper only took one attempt at getting married successfully much to Ella's dismay. It was a much grander affair that Steve and Ella's wedding had been but that was hardly surprising considering the kind of person Tony is. The guy didn't know the meaning of the words 'low-key'. They fought more than anyone although most of their fights tended to be about different trivia things such as dirty underwear in the bathroom (Tony) and stressing out about work too much (Pepper). They still lived in Avengers tower although Ella and Steve had moved out five years earlier after finding out Ella was expecting their second child. Steve had reasoned that they needed more space for the baby and as James grew up it would be nice for him to have a garden to play around in. That's where they found themselves now in their suburban five bedroom house. Steve and the rest of the Avengers had done at lot of remodelling before they moved in wanting it to be perfect. Ella was speechless the first time he showed it to her. It was beautiful and modern but homely too including a fire place in the living room and an open kitchen. The garden was massive and was currently home to a sandpit and a slide for the children.

Natasha and Clint were by far the most dysfunctional couple but that only made their bond stronger. Natasha was against marriage and Clint respected her decision however that didn't stop him from giving her a promise ring instead. Tony joked it was like marriage but without the religious aspect, Natasha punched him in the arm so hard he had a bruise for a week. Natasha and Clint both still worked for SHIELD as well as being part of the Avengers. In the end they couldn't imagine doing anything else however they were a bit more selective on the type of missions they undertook normally working together on them as a team.

Thor and Jane married in a proper Asgardian ceremony that all the Avengers were invited too; their son arrived only a year after their wedding. Thor mainly spent his time on Asgard now as his father had passed away leaving Thor as the ruler of the realm however he always visited earth and helped the Avengers with whatever chaos they found themselves wrapped up in.

Bruce had met someone too, another doctor as it turned out (a medical one – it came in hand after a few near misses with villains hell bent on taking over the whole). They adopted two twin girls from Calcutta whose family died. At first Bruce was dead set against the idea of adoption or even having children due to the power the Hulk had over him but over the years he had learnt how to live with it. It was still a constant struggle everyday but thanks to his family it wasn't one he had to face alone.

"What you thinking about?" Ella had Steve murmur into her ear as his hands wrapped themselves around her waist from behind. Ella smiled at the sound of his voice before spinning around to face him. Her arms wrapped around his neck.

"Nothing much," She smiled softly as their lips met. All these years and she still couldn't get over kissing Steve, "What are you doing up? You had a late night last night." She asked as she pulled back.

"Our little brood woke me up, apparently James was trying to colour Caitlyn's hair with his new pens. She didn't like that every much." Steve laughed.

"Well I can't say I blame her. Did you find out why?" Ella asked

"Yeah, James wanted her to have a superhero disguise so she would be safe when they go out to fight crime."

"I swear that boy gets more like you everyday." Ella laughed gently.

"Are you saying that's a bad thing Mrs Rogers?" Steve said leaning down to kiss her.

"Never." She whispered against his lips as their lips reconnected again.

All too soon they pulled away from each other. Steve released her to make himself some coffee while Ella finished making the sandwich she had been focused on earlier. She looked over to Steve as he scrubbed a hand over his face.

"Why don't you try and get some more sleep? I can take the kids to school before I go to SHIELD for my meeting with Fury." Ella suggested noticing just how tired her husband looked.

"I'm fine, sweetheart. Family first, remember. I just wasn't expecting to be out that last yesterday." Steve replied giving her assuring smile. Steve had learned Bucky was still alive thanks to Hydra a while ago, actually coming face to face with his former best friend. Since then he had been doing anything he could to find him.

"How did it go?" Ella asked, Steve had found about an abandoned warehouse were Hydra had kept Bucky frozen. Last night Steve and a team went to investigate it.

"Okay, I'm getting closer, El. I know it; I just need to find him. He doesn't have anyone else. If I could get my best friend back..." Steve trailed off.

"You will find him, I believe that." Ella cut him off, "Just don't give up." She grabbed his hand gently.

"I love you, you know that?"

Ella laughed, "You may have mentioned it. I love you too."

Steve sighed noticing the time, "Kids, come on or we will be late for school!" He shouted loud enough for the kids playing upstairs to hear him. Before long the stampede of feet came rushing down the stairs into the kitchen.

"James' don't forget your baseball kit today okay?" Ella said to her son as she handed him his lunch. Even at aged 8 he looked like a mini Steve with his blond hair which was ruffled.

"I got it, mom. You guys are still watching me play later right? Uncle Tony promised to show me his latest invention!" He said excitedly.

"Of course we will be there buddy, wouldn't miss it for the world. Save us a seat okay?" Steve laughed ruffling James' hair. The little boy nodded excitedly.

Ella handed Caitlyn her lunch too, tucking a lock of hair behind her ear. Caitlyn was only 4 but she was already a lively little person. She had her mother's curly brown hair and her father's blue eyes.

"I'll pick you up from dance class this afternoon." Ella said to her daughter kissing her cheek. Caitlyn smiled wide.

"Love you mommy!" She replied loudly, "Imma draw you a picture at school today!"

Ella laughed, "I look forward to seeing it."

Steve picked Caitlyn up and she wrapped her arms around his neck. "Come on guys let's get you in the car."

"Have fun!" Ella laughed gently as Steve leaned down to kiss her again.

"Thank you." He whispered gently.

"What for?"

"Giving me a family. For giving me the two most precious children in the world." Steve smiled as he leaned down to kiss her.

"Three." Ella whispered. Steve looked at her in shock before looking down at her stomach.

"You're..."

"Yep." She smiled widely.

"I love you."

"Me too." She laughed kissing him. "Now go before you're late for school."

Steve laughed but did has she said, a massive smile on his face. It was a good thing they decided not to throw out that old crib.
