"Mommy, where are you and Daddy going?"
"We're going shopping."
Carly sits in the dark hallway, looking up at her tall parents standing at the doorway. Bright light from the sun shines in the house when the door is opened.
"Can I come?"
"I'm afraid not."
"Please Mommy!"
"I'm sorry Carly, but you cannot come."
"Why?"
"Well a certain someone's birthday is coming up.."
"That's me!"
"Yep! So now you understand?"
"But I can show you what presents I want!"
"Then it won't be a surprise!"
"Oh okay Mommy! I love you!"
"I love you too!"
"Bye Carly, Daddy loves you!"
"Love you too!"
Carly's parents walk out the door as her babysitter walks in the door. As she closes the door, the hallway grows dark. "So what do you want to do Carly?" She looks up at the babysitter and just sits there in silence. "When are Mommy and Daddy coming back?" Little did Carly know, they wouldn't.
