At 7am, Ms.Ruby slammed open the door. "Rise and shine girls! We'll be having breakfast in 5 minutes and if you're not ready by then, we'll start eating without you. Better hurry!" She walked out, shutting the door and allowing us to get ready.
I quickly sat up and started getting dressed. I was wearing a grey hoodie and jeans. I glanced over at Maddie and noticed she was still laying in her bed, wrapped in her blanket. "You know she's not lying, they will start breakfast without you." I could hear Maddie sigh as she pulled on black shorts and a long-sleeved black top. We brushed our hair and finished getting ready before walking out the door and into the dining room. We took our seats as cereal was served. We silently ate our cereal until it was time to go to "school." It's not really school, though. It's more like we have a caregiver tell us to read and do workbook pages, not teaching us anything. I don't do well because of that. There's no tutors to help me and the so-called "teacher" doesn't even teach us. I stopped caring about school since no one will help me. To be honest, it's just a waste of time. Unfortunately, I still have to go.
Maddie and I make our way to our study room. There are two circular tables, accompanied with many chairs. We took our seats and Mr.Matt handed us a book and workbook. "Read pages 20-31 and do pages 4-5." We roll our eyes. We both hate this and even if we do it, it doesn't matter. Mr.Matt doesn't care if we succeed or fail. He could care less. I get out a sheet of paper to pass notes like we usually do.
i hate this
same
we should just leave mr.matt doesnt care about us
idk
whats the worst that could happen
get kicked out of class but id love for that to happen
ok lets go
We get up and glance over at Mr.Matt. He doesn't even realize that we're standing up. We quietly tip-toe over to the door. Mr.Matt still hasn't noticed. We open the door and run out. We go to our room, slamming the door behind us. I can hear Ms.Ruby walking over. I'm dead, I just know it.
She angrily knocks on the door. We stay silent, hoping she'd just walk away. "OPEN UP OR I'LL USE FORCE!" Force? What kind of for- My thoughts are interrupted as Ms.Ruby picks the lock, throwing the door open. She marched over to me, I'd really be getting it this time. She slaps me across the face. I cry out in pain as Maddie gasps. She slaps me again, this time harder. Tears are now streaming down my face. She slaps me once again, leaving a red hand print on my cheek. "That'll teach you to fucking obey me." She walks out the doorway. My vision is blurry from the tears clouding my eyes. I glance over at Maddie, a few tears escape as she is staring in shock. She runs over to me, swinging her arms around me. She is sobbing now. "I-I'm s-so sorry. T-This is a-all m-my fault." I pull her closer to me. "This isn't your fault, why would it be?"
"I-I'm the o-one who s-said it was okay t-to s-skip."
"It's not your fault, Mr.Ruby is the one who hurt me."
Maddie opens her mouth to say something. but doesn't say anything. She places her head on my shoulder. We sit there for a while, just comforting each other. After a while, she falls asleep. This isn't a very comfortable position, so I gently set her down, placing her head on my pillow. I lie down next her and let my eyes flutter shut.
"You fucking piece of shit."
"Just die already."
"We see the marks, just kill yourself."
"Everyone hates you."
"Maddie is just sorry for you."
"Slit your wrists instead of cutting your arm."
