Carly stared out her window at the sun setting. She was in her room alone, wrapped up in her blue blanket, and eating an apple she stole from the kitchen after dinner. She remembers the day she first came here, 8 years ago.
-Flashback-
I walked in the door of "Purple Diamonds Adoption Center", holding Molly's hand. There was a lady at the front desk. She had short, black hair, bright blue eyes, and wearing way too much make-up. "Welcome to Purple Diamonds Adoption Center! How may I help you today?"
"I was told to take Carly here," she motioned over to me. "Her parents were killed in a car accident."
"Oh I'm so very sorry for your loss. If you could please fill out these papers and then we'll take Carly off your hands."
She handed Molly a clipboard and a pen. There were the basic questions, name, gender, and age. Asking if we had any allergies and what grade we were in were also there along with other questions. Molly finished filling out the paper and handed it back to the lady. I gave Molly a hug goodbye and the lady lead me down a hallway. We were walking for a little bit when she finally opened a door. Inside was a small room. There were yellow walls and 5 beds on the left and right with white sheets and a blue blanket. At the foot of the bed, there was a chest to put your belongings in. 3 girls stood inside the room. 2 had long, brown hair and brown eyes. They were identical so I assumed they were twins. The other girl had orange hair, green eyes, and glasses. She was also taller than the twins.
"Girls you have another roommate!" She looked over at me and I smiled shyly and waved. "This is Carly and I hope you all get to know each other!" She walked out the door with me standing there awkwardly. The tall girl with orange hair approached me. "Hi! I'm Hannah! Nice to meet you!"
Then one of the twin's spoke up, "Hey, I'm Olivia and this is my twin sister, Ava."
"Hi, my name is Carly."
Hannah told me where my bed was and started talking again, "How old are you? I'm 8 and the twins just turned 7."
"I'm 6."
"Okay cool! Just so you know I'm the one in charge since I'm the oldest." I could hear the twins sighing in the background. "So, if you don't mind telling us, why'd you come here, like what's the reason? My parents had me on accident and didn't want to take care of me. I've been here basically ever since I was born and no one has ever wanted to adopt me.."
"Oh I'm sorry about all that. My parents got in a car crash."
The twins spoke up in unison, "Our parents were in a house fire."
We all were getting bummed out so I tried to move on by asking questions about the adoption center. "So, how do we go to school?"
Hannah said, "We have study rooms where kids will go depending on their grade and there will be a teacher to teach."
"So do you live in the same room as your grade?"
"No, by age. For example, 0-1, 2-5, 6-8, 9-12, 13-15, and 14-18."
"Oh okay."
"Yeah, and I've been in half of them."
"Wow."
We continue to talk and I put away my things before we get a knock on our door. It was the lady from before. "Dinner is ready so please go to the dining room."
"Yes Ms.Ruby," the other girls say in unison.
They lead me to the dining room where some kids are already sitting. It's a long wooden table with many chairs to seat all the children. We take our seats and soon eat dinner. We have fried chicken and french fries. Not bad but, I've had better. When we finish we go back to our room to talk. We watch the sun set and Ms.Ruby comes in telling us we have 10 minutes to get ready to go to bed. The other girls quickly start to get ready, but I don't go as fast.
"Hurry up! You're going to run out of time!"
"But won't they let me finish getting ready?"
"Nope, they'll just send you to bed.."
That's when I hurry up. 10 minutes later we climb into our beds. I stare at the ceiling, thinking about my new life.
