I slowly started to open my eyes. I could see light shining into the dark bedroom from the window. I glanced over at the clock. 8:23. "What? Mrs.Ruby usually wakes us up earlier, but okay?", I mumbled to myself. I looked over at Maddie's bed. She was fast asleep. I got up and slowly opened the door, cringing when it made noise. I peeked into the hallway. The light was off. That was strange. The light was always on, except for when it's night. Confused, I stepped into the hallway. I walked towards the dining room, looking in. Mrs.Ruby was sat there with a cup of coffee. I quietly rushed back to my room, hoping she wouldn't notice me and get mad for being awake. I walked into my room, slowly shut the door, and climbed back into my bed. I snuggled against my blue blanket, the one that all children were given upon arriving. I tried to piece everything together. Why were we sleeping late? Why was Mrs.Ruby the only one awake, sipping coffee? I took out my phone to pass the time. That's when I realized. It was Sunday. On Sunday, we were allowed to sleep late. I don't know why I forgot, Sunday was my favorite day of the week. We could all just relax and do as we pleased. Usually on these days I would be alone in my bedroom, but today was different. I had a.. friend. It was weird. I haven't had a friend for so long. It was nice, having someone with you that cared about you.

I was on my phone for a little while since I couldn't go back to sleep. Maddie soon woke up. I saw her rise from her bed, yawning and rubbing her tired eyes. "Good morning!," She chirped.

"Good morning."

"So, what do we do?" She looked confused. I wouldn't blame her. It was her first day, and she was lucky it was a day where we had a break, just relaxing.

"Oh, since today's Sunday, we can just relax."

"Cool! So, what do you want to do."

I wanted to get on Tumblr and stay there all day, like I usually did, but I had a friend now and I didn't want to be rude, plus I enjoyed spending time with Maddie. "Well, we can go and get breakfast if you want."

She nodded. I started walking towards the kitchen and she followed. Since it was Sunday and we could sleep in, we got breakfast whenever. We still had lunch and dinner together, though. In the kitchen there were a few other kids getting some food. I walked over to the cabinet and opened it up finding an array of cereals. "What would you like?" She pointed towards the box of Lucky Charms. I poured her and I some, helping some other kids with getting breakfast. We walked into the lounge. There were brown sofas, a multi-color carpet, and a wooden coffee table. Kids' drawings littered the light blue walls. There were two small TVs, with a PlayStation 2. It was an old console, but we all enjoyed playing video games on it. We had the two TV's so kids could play games and other kids could watch TV. We used to only have one TV, which led to fighting. The caregivers eventually gave in and bought another TV. There were also some tables and chairs in the corner, where kids would usually draw. Many kids were spread across the room. Some boys played Frogger on the PlayStation and many other children sat on the couches watching TV, which appeared to be Spongebob. There were also some girls sat at the tables and chairs, eating and coloring. We took a seat on one of the couches and started eating. "This place is cool," Maddie suddenly said.

"Yeah, I really like it too."

"Hey, maybe when those boys are done playing, we could play?"

"Sure why not, but be warned, I'm the best at Frogger."

"Yeah, okay."

"It's true!"

When we were finished we took our bowls back to the kitchen and returned to the lounge. We patiently waited for the boys to give up so we could play, but they were determined to beat the level. After what seemed like years, they finally beat it so we could play. They handed us the controllers and went back to the first level.

We spend most of the day playing on the PlayStation, stopping for lunch. We had to stop playing after dinner, as the caregivers didn't think it was good to spend the entire day playing a video game.

We started to walk back to our room. "Maddie, thanks for being such a great friend. I had a lot of fun today. I don't know what I would do without you."

"You would probably be lonely."

"Hey!"

"It's true though.."

"You're right. I'm glad to have you as a friend."

A small smile creeped up onto her face. "I'm glad too."

We walked back to our rooms and spent the rest of the time talking and listening to music. Mrs.Ruby came in telling us to go to bed. Of course she would ruin our conversation. We changed into our pajamas and climbed into bed. Again, I couldn't sleep. I'm not sure why. I had an amazing day and I was tired. So, I texted Maddie.

  Carly: u awake?

Maddie: yep and im trying to sleep

Carly: srry i'll leave u alone

Maddie: its fine i'll talk to u i guess

Maddie: whats up

Carly: i cant sleep help

Maddie: hmmm

Maddie: do what i do when i cant sleep

Carly: what

Maddie: listen to calming music it works all the time

Carly: omg thx youre a livesaver

Maddie: glad i could help :)

Carly: goodnite

Maddie: night

And with that I got my earbuds and listened to music. It worked and I was soon asleep. I was so thankful for Maddie, I've thought it a million times, but it was just so true. Without Maddie, I would still be depressed and hurting myself. Maddie was literally a live-saver.
