Ridge-

North stares at me, jaw dropping open. "You're kidding," she blurts out.

"Holy shit, you mean we were with Lupus,"

"Babe, all the people around you right now are Lupus,"

"And they can control shit?"

"Some of them have telepathy,"

"Super speed?"

"No,"

"Mind reading,"

"No,"

"Sparkling in sunlight?"

"You watched too many movies,"

"And you're disappointing,"

Apparently, I went to this place all the time before the accident and when I visited again I understood why. The warmth, the peacefulness, the kind attitude, the nonstop teasing. The Skyline was like a second home, apparently, all my brothers went here too.

"Thanks," she says abruptly.

"Hmm?" I say, turning to her.

"You know... for bring me here, thanks, I don't thank people a lot so it might not sound right, but I am grateful."

"Oh," I nod awkwardly. "Sure,"

We sit in awkward silence that she doesn't try to fill. All the sudden though, she sits straight up.

"That's it," she whispers.

"What?"

"Theft, and a tech geek," her eyes are lighting up quickly, shaking her head in awe. "Wow, never thought of that,"

"Um, what exactly are we wowing?"

"It makes so much sense, which room did we find that guy in?"

"Caste's room,"

"And which room did we find that flash drive in?"

"Uh...Caste's room--oh," I say, as realization strikes me.

"They were there for that flash drive...or whatever was on it,"

"But it's a flash drive, you don't need a tech geek to know that," I protest, frowning.

She shakes her head. "They knew that footage was somewhere in the room, they thought he'd have to go through an encryption or shit to find it on Eaton's laptop, theft, so he's sly and light on his feet, and tech, so he knows what they need and can get it with no trouble...Harlow..."

"Was simply at the wrong place at the wrong time," I finish, nodding.

"Lee, we need to track down his family, someone he knows, we need to know who sent him in, I'm going to call Caleb about his whereabouts,"

"Makes sense, I guess,"

"Have you thought about tracking down Jeff Davies, I completely ditched you on that..."

"Yeah you did... you up for it,"

"Um...I already gathered some shit,"

I let my eyebrows raise. "Really, okay...what do you have?"

"Guess who's Jeff's father in law?"

"Who?"

"Rowan Spiegelman,"

"The Rowan Spiegelman?"

"No, the drunkard Rowan Spiegelman, of course, the Rowan Spiegelman!"

Rowan was one of the most successful businessmen in the U.S, the biggest Billionaire in Cali, although Monroe Designs, my dad's company, was a close second.  He was also the former governor, so yeah...this information was big shit.

"Are you sure?"

"No, I'm fucking with you, of course, I'm sure,"

"So you think this case was assigned specifically to Davies? So he can cover up for it? For Spiegelman's sake?"

North nods, "Another thing: did you know Davies is assigned your case too?"

"A police officer usually wouldn't have two cases, they can, but not much do," I finish, not even sure how I know this. She nods, seeming a little impressed with me.

I can impress you with a lot more, baby.

"So you think Spiegelman actually influenced them some way or another into giving both cases to Davies?"

North nods. "Yeah, I think both attacks are definitely related,"

"So there is more behind this Davies cop that we aren't seeing,"

"He's definitely hiding something, even if it has nothing to do with you, he's shady and I don't like it, I need to find out,"

"Wanna get going then? You know his address?"

"Here's the weirdest thing yet, he and his wife live with the former governor, why would he do that, sure living with his father-in-law is more luxurious, but he gets reasonable income,"

"Unless the luxury was supposed to be another way of bribing Davies into working in the case and if he needs bribing..." I trail off.

"You think he left that bullet there for us to find? Because finding it could reveal the people he was trying to cover for, but he still wants them to pay, just not through him, so he isn't held responsible?"

"Exactly," I say. Then I chuckle. "So who really is on our side?"

I glance at North and I know she's thinking of Kat, of Eaton and his secrets. Finally, she answers.

"Was anyone ever on our side?"
