Ava's POV

Gallagher Girls Dormitory. Rothwell Preparatory Academy. Friday, September 6th. 9:45pm

"Do you think I look like a lumber jack?" Brynn jumps out of the girls' shared walk in closet clad in black jean shorts, a tight white t-shirt, a flannel wrapped around her twig like waist, and her signature pair of combat boots.

I crack up. From the short time I've known Brynn she seemed to amuse me. Her comments were utterly hilarious.

"So I do?" Brynn twirls around to look at herself in the mirror.

"No you don't! You look great. Just lumber jack? Really?" I fall back onto my bed laughing and a few seconds later one of Brynn's goose feathered pillows whacks me in the head.

"Ow!" I whine sitting up again and looking at a guilty Brynn.

"Sorry. That may have been harsh. So, is that what you're wearing?" Brynn questions my floral sundress and white sandal clad feet.

After looking from her outfit to mine I realize I look more like I'm going to a South Hampton brunch rather that a bonfire for a bunch of drunk teenagers.

"Not anymore. This outfit looks like something my mom would pick out for me." I walk into the closet and do a quick outfit change.

Once I step out Brynn does a slow clap for my entrance. "And you have Chanel combat boots. I officially hate you."

I do a quick curtsey before turning around in the full-length mirror to examine my new outfit. I switched my sandals for a pair of Chanel light brown combat boots that matched well with a pair of Urban Outfitters light washed high waisted jean shorts. Since it was getting cooler at night I opted for a maroon crop top sweater that showed just the right amount of my toned stomach.

"Well if we're going to brave the woods I might as well wear the appropriate shoes."

"If you say so." Brynn seems to agree as we both finish up the remainder of our hair and makeup.

Even though I had agreed to go with Carson to the bonfire tonight, I didn't mind going with back up. Cecily had at first denied my idea but after I came up with the perfect plan for a double date she was all for it.

Brynn however wasn't thrilled that she had to entertain the odds of possibly hooking up with Carson's roommate, Travis Chu.

"I swear if that short Asian tries to make a move on me I will get violent!" Brynn waves her fist as I try to finish her smokey eye for her.

"He's not like that and he's not even short!"

"He's like 5 ft.9 which would be okay if I wasn't an Amazonian." Brynn side eyes me and I can't help but burst out laughing.

"First lumber jack now Amazonian. I think you may need to see a therapist my friend."

"I don't need a therapist. I need a guy that's at least one inch taller than me. Like Dax Collingsworth. He's a good height." Brynn suggests and I gag.

"He's also the devil incarnate."

"Well then Lucifer must be one hot fallen angel." I put down the eyeshadow brush and stare at my new found friend.

"Do you have a crush on Collingsworth?" I ask.

"No. He's handsome, don't get me wrong but he's too dark and brooding for my taste." While Daxon Collingsworth is quite literally my least favorite person on the planet I never considered him dark and brooding. More like arrogant and tactless.
