Ava's POV

5 Months Earlier

Rothwell Private Academy Boarding School. On-Campus Infirmary. Saturday, April 28th. 4:30pm

"Ow!" I cringe in pain grabbing at my injured ankle that the doctor not so sensitively put pressure on.

"Sorry Ms. St. Xavier. Write down that the left ankle is suffering from an inward lateral sprain and a possible foot fracture." Dr. Peirce turns to one of the nurses and my jaw drops.

"Are you serious?! I'm supposed to go to a volleyball camp in a month!" I try to hoist myself up but Dr. Peirce urges me down.

"And that still may be possible if we get you into recovery after you REST!" I groan collapsing back on the uncomfortable hospital bed as I watch Dr. Peirce exit my room.

"We also got a hold of your parents. Your mom will be here tomorrow to take you to the city for a few days." The kind nurse patted my hand and I only nodded in acknowledgement as to what she just told me. I wasn't in the mood to play nice and I surely wasn't in the mood to see my mother tomorrow.

"The sedative should be kicking in soon. Buzz if you need anything." The nurse gave another sweet smile then also exited my room.

I pulled out my phone irritated. Everyone was on their social media accounts talking about two things. The first being Daxon Collingsworth's off campus party he's throwing tonight at one of his dad's rental properties and of course my fall from grace when I collided with Alaina Peterson on the soccer field this afternoon. Who would have thought a Girls Juniors Vs. Seniors Powderpuff football game would get so rough? I wasn't mad at Alaina though. She hadn't intended to wreck into me and practically break my whole left leg off. It was just bad luck that might quite possibly ruin my summer.

"You poor baby!" I recognize Cecily's coos without even looking up from my phone.

"Hey Ce." I take in her appearance. She looked flawless as ever with her perfectly curled platinum hair piled in a high ponytail on top of her head wrapped in a Rothwell navy blue bow. She was wearing her cheer uniform of course with a windbreaker jacket covering her shoulders.

"So, Alaina Peterson is like an animal." Cecily cracks up at her sad excuse of a joke and I try my best to give her a halfhearted smile.

"Yeah so much so that I'll probably be on crutches for the next three weeks." I look down at my ankle and foot that are currently being iced and elevated and Cecily gives me a simple wave of the hand.

"Girl that just means you can get out of that volleyball camp your parents were making you go to. Which means you can spend the first part of summer in Cannes with your favorite blond bestie!" Cecily does a happy dance and I seriously contemplate if she's ever listened to a thing I have said in our whole friendship.

"What?" She asks confused, finally noticing I didn't look thrilled about vacationing in an overpriced part of France.

"Cecily, I wanted to go to that volleyball camp."

"Ew. Why?" I'm about to explain that unlike her I don't enjoy spending every day of my summer getting wine wasted and developing skin cancer on a yacht but luckily, I'm saved by a familiar face.

"Ava, are you okay? I would have been here sooner but it took me forever to find a lion stuffed animal in the giftshop." Kam plops a Get Well Soon Gift basket in my lap, accompanied by a large stuffed lion with a "Get Well Soon" engraving on his chest.
