Elizabeth's POV
This morning, I woke up in a rarely quiet home in the suburban city of Manhattan, New York. There was something abnormal about my family's apartment: no fighting parents, annoying, prepubescent siblings, or loud neighbors. All I was thinking was: What time is it? I rolled over and looked on my cellphone, and on the bright screen flashed 10:47 a.m. Damn it..I'm late for school.
I jumped from my bed, and walked to the kitchen to make myself breakfast. Why didn't mom wake me? She has never let me miss a day of school since last semester, but I guess she forgot about me. Then, I heard my phone ring. It was mom.
"Morning, Liz. Sorry for not waking you..I totally forgot." She says in a quiet tone. "It's fine, mom." I say. "Now, sweetie, get your bags packed. We are not staying in Manhattan anymore. We have--" she starts before I interrupt her, "What?! Why?!" I say slightly yelling. "Your father and I are separating. We're moving in with Aunt Giselle in Chino Hills. I'm sorry, darling. We can't stay." She says sounding as if she wants to cry. "Oh my freaking god! Why didn't I see this coming?! I knew this would never freaking last, but no damn person in this house listens to me! You've separated in the past, and you made the stupid mistake of getting remarried! Who the hell does that?!" I yelled not listening to my mom's constant pleas of forgiveness. I ended the call, and threw my phone on the couch.
Ever since my parents divorced and remarried, I always had a small hatred for my parents. After all, they divorced because my dad cheated on my mom with some whore from Brooklyn. Since then, I never wanted a relationship with the man. He will never be my father no matter what he tries. I ran to my room and packed my bags as fast as I could. I just couldn't handle this happening again. I'm done.
After I finished packing, it was 2:30 p.m, and my brother, Zachary, walked in. "Zach, pack your bags. We're moving to Chino." I said holding my neck, which was in pain. Zach looked up in shock and said, "To Chino? As in Cali?" I looked at him and said, "Yeah..with Auntie Giselle." He sighed and walked off to pack.
My mom came home earlier than usual, and apparently already had her bags packed. "I know it's late notice, but you guys need to understand how much I care for your futures..This is why we are going." My mom says while grabbing the last of her belongings. I don't want to fight with her, so I say nothing, and take mine and my brother's bags to the car. We're gunna have a long, stressful flight to Cali tonight...I can already see it.
