The Awakening

Eli stood in the doorway of the balcony attached to his bedroom. He was around six foot, slightly muscular; not that you'd know unless he was topless...Or nude. He was dressed in a baggy, navy henley which flowed gently in the early breeze, making his toned stomach very clear, with black jeans and well-worn combat boots. He sighed loudly as he admired the skyline of this quaint little town named Wallwater while he ran his hands through the tamed mess of black that was his hair.

He turned back into his bedroom and shifted his weight from one foot to the other.
Admittedly, he was bored. Well, you would be if you had been around for as long as he had. He had lived in the shadows for years after the last girl, her death hit him hard. He didn't want to kill her but she didn't want to accept him either so something had to be done.
He turned on his heel and looked out at the skyline which had changed from a dull purple colour to a more navy-sky. A slight smirk appeared on his face as he admired the change.

He only started watching changes around 1950. How girls became women. How boys became men. How bikes became cars. How people grew up. How small houses became mansions. It baffled him how everything changed but he had long since stopped.

He turned for a third time and headed over to his desk where there were stacks of journals and photo albums. But lying in the centre of the desk was a single photo of the last one. Her name was Kimberly. She happened over thirty years ago but the thought of her still hurt him. Maybe that was why he kept a photo of her, as punishment for what he did to her. After her, he decided to never go after any girl again but the problem now was that he was lonely. And it was getting depressing.
He picked up his years old iPhone from the desk and called for a taxi before sliding his phone into his jeans and reaching for the leather jacket hanging on the back of his bedroom door. He slid it on before closing the balcony doors and heading downstairs.
He had picked Wallwater because he hadn't heard of it before, there were no bad stories about it and it was a dramatic change of scenery for him.
Speaking of change, one thing he was forever grateful about was being able to walk in the sun, eat normal food and appeared normal. The only thing different was his temperature, he was always colder than others. The change surprised him and that's what really made him notice it. He had never been able to go in the sun without it burning like hell and causing blisters to appear everywhere then just one day, he could...And nothing happened.

He leaned against the wooden front door of his new home as he waited for his taxi. In all honesty, it was a taxi but not. It was a man who knew about Eli and offered to help him in anyway he can in exchange for money, which seemed fair to Eli and so he had a personal taxi which he still had to pay for.
A gleaming Ford Escape rolled up, with the window down and old faithful sitting at the wheel. Steven. Eli exchanged a smile with him as he walked round to the passenger side and got in.
He had just buckled himself in when Steven pulled away swiftly from the curb and down towards what Eli assumed to be the town centre.
Eli stared out at the various buildings with scattered lights everywhere blur past him before Steven broke the silence, as he always did.
"Do you want to stop anywhere in particular?" he asked, keeping his eyes on the road.

"Yeah, I kinda want to get a coffee," replied Eli, getting comfortable in the leather seat as he pouted his lips, "Dunno why that came to my head,"

Steven nodded and continued to drive, "I did some research on this town so I found some places,"
As much as Steven had noticed that his...Friend? Was getting more and more sad-looking, he rarely said anything. Once or twice, he had joked with Eli about getting a girl for the night and Eli had shut down entirely. Making Steven think that's what was wrong with Eli, which it was.

Soon enough, the car rolled to a stop outside a little cafe with a sign above the door saying, "Late Nighters". Fitting.
Eli sighed and let himself out the car as Steven shut the power off and got out himself too. Eli headed towards the cafe entrance as Steven followed him.
He glanced back at Steven who smiled gently. Steven had met Eli in London at a bar and their friendship was formed there. Steven told Eli all about himself in a drunk state; that he was alone, had no family left, had a crappy job. He was pretty down about it. In turn, Eli told him everything and said he can be happy if he promises to keep Eli's secret and he did. And Steven has been pretty happy since, he's seen more of the world than most guys his age had, he'd slept with an insane amount of women and he had earned a lot of money. He always lived in a house not too far from Eli.
It was like as long as Steven kept his secret then Eli would keep Steven safe. And in turn, Steven kept a look out for Eli.

Inside the cafe, Eli wandered in between leather loveseats, chairs, round tables and coffee tables as Steven sat down in an armchair near the door and watched. Eli was oblivious the stares from other girls...And some guys...In the place as he stared up at the chalkboard menu and clenched his jaw. Then, as he stepped forward to order, a pretty little thing caught his eye.
She wasn't staring up at him like everyone else was. She was sitting, comfortably, on a leather couch with a blue mug on the wooden coffee table in front of her and her nose buried into a book. If he squinted his eyes, he could see it was 'The Great Gatsby
Eli smirked slightly as he clocked a bookshelf near her before he turned and began to head over.
He half expected her to glance up and become entranced but she didn't even flinch. Eli rolled his eyes as he looked at the books which filled up the shelf. There was a nice selection but this girl would have been the better choice. He slid 'Lolita' out of the shelf and turned to leave.
He hadn't been holding onto the book as tightly as he should have been as when he turned and swung his arm, the book flew from his fingers and hit the girl's shoulders. She jerked suddenly and dropped her own book as Eli debated leaving. But he didn't.

He reached over to get his book after she had retrieved her own. She hadn't realised he was reaching out as she went to pick it up too, causing their hands to collide as they both tried to pick the book up.
She yanked her hand back as if he had just shocked her.
She clasped her hands together as she glanced up at him and mumbled something.

She had the most amazing face structure he had ever seen. A narrow frame with a pointed chin, a tanned skin tone complete with thin, pale pink lips and chocolate coloured eyes. Her brunette which was tied into a high, loose ponytail looked incredibly thick and long.
Eli hadn't picked up his book yet as he stood, mesmerised by this beauty in front of him. She looked so beautiful...And...She...Smelled...Delicious. He stood up quickly and straightened his jacket out as she quickly stood up and hurried towards the door.
He watched the girl scurry off as Steven clocked both the girl and the entrancement she had on Eli. Steven chuckled a little as he stood up while Eli came over to him, "You alright?"
Eli blinked a few times and exhaled, "Yeah, good...Let's go home,"

Steven led him to the car and got him inside before getting into his own seat and starting the car up.
Eli sat in silence. He was quite tense. To say he was surprised was an understatement. The temperature, appearance...And smell of that fragile little thing made him feel as though he had been dropped into an ice bath. In that small amount of time, she had completely entranced him, all he could see when he was looking at her was this powerful light behind her and it was all he still could see. Her surrounded by light. It was a shock to the system.
The car finally rolled to a stop outside Eli's house. He sprinted at the speed of light from the car into the house and straight up the stairs.

Usually Steven just headed home but this time he turned off the car and headed in after Eli.

Steven headed upstairs and found a trail of clothes down the hall and into the bathroom where the sound of a shower was emitting. He smirked as he picked all of Eli's clothes up and put it in his bedroom before sitting on the edge of the bed and waiting for him.

Eli came into his bedroom, water running down him with a black towel wrapped around his waist. Not that it did much, you could still see the outline of his manhood.

"So, what was that?" asked Steven, standing up, "Look, I'd never question you, bud. But the last time I saw you like that was thirty years ago,"

Eli nodded.

"Is she potentially...The one?" asked Steven, making Eli cringe.
Eli shrugged as he paced around his room.

"Are you sure?" asked Steven, watching Eli, "I mean the only thing missing from the sight of you staring at her was some beautiful orchestra,"
"Wait until it happens to you," muttered Eli, opening the balcony doors as he exhaled through his mouth loudly.

"It has, many times," smirked Steven, placing a hand over his heart, "From what I got from watching her, she seemed really quiet and alone...And a little sad. Not your usual type. Also, she is a human. I know there have been other humans but remember..."

"I know," sighed Eli, whipping his towel off and revealing his bum to Steven, "This just...Complicates things, slightly,"
Steven chuckled as he turned on his heel, "I'll see you later, man,"

Eli listened to Steven walking down the stairs and out the house before witnessing him get into the car and drive off. Leaving him alone to think about the girl who was bringing a certain feeling to a certain area.
