"YOU BROKE UP WITH CARLY?" I asked Grant. We were in history, a few minutes before the bell.
"Yeah," he replied, shrugging, as if it wasn't a big deal. His gorgeous blue eyes stared into mine intently. Grant had his head tilted a little to the side, as if he was trying to figure a puzzle out. He bit his lip nervously and came a little closer. His gaze never wavered from mine as he reached over and touched my arm.
"Alaina, I have something to ask you. "
Was this it? Was this the moment Grant was going to ask me out? Was this the-
"Can you come over today?" he asked.
"For what?" I asked, as innocently as a girl in this situation could. Inside, I was already doing a happy dance. You know, the one that makes you look like a lunatic, except you don't care because you're so happy? No? Oh, well...
"I, uh, wan-"
"Woah! Get your hand off my girl," Seth said, walking into the classroom and giving Grant a death glare.
He walked up to us and pushed Grant's hand off my arm when Grant did not react. When I glared at him, he put his hands up and gave me a guilty look.
Then Steph walked into the classroom. I was glaring at Seth. He, however, was in the middle of a glaring contest with Grant. She looked at each of us and slowly backed out of the classroom. The door closed behind her.
"Seth and I need to talk," I said angrily, then dragged Seth to the door.
When I opened the door, I found Steph with her ear pressed against the door. When I dragged Seth out of the classroom, she shrugged at me and gave me an encouraging smile as she walked into the classroom. But just as I was about to slowly murder Seth using all sorts of torture devices, Mr. Bodi stopped us.
"The bell is about to ring," he simply said, blocking the way to freedom. I could easily push this man out of the way and drag Seth by the ear to his doom. But, instead, I sighed and walked back into the classroom with Seth trailing close behind. Seth had never looked more relieved in his life. He gave me a huge grin that almost made me forgive him.
Since I had already finished the project last night, all I could do was stare around the classroom the whole period.
And, let me tell you, if you were to pick any specimen in the human species to entertain you, it would be teenagers. Some people had crumpled up pieces of paper and were throwing them around. I'm pretty sure one of them bounced off Mr. Bodi's head, although he didn't seem to notice. Instead, he seemed engrossed in his book. But, let's be honest, if you look away from Jonathan and Harrison for a second too long, they could burn down the school.
Other people were on their phones, carefully hidden from Mr. Bodi's view. While others were scrambling to finish their projects because they had put it off until the last minute.
When the bell finally rang, Mr. Bodi gestured for us to put our final projects on his desk. I grabbed my project an placed it on his desk. I then patiently waited outside the classroom until Seth came out.
But what came out of the classroom was not expected. Not a "what" exactly. But, I had to admit, I had not seen this one coming.
Grant was holding Steph's hand. Grant was holding Steph's hand. Let me repeat. GRANT WAS HOLDING STEPH'S HAND!!!
As I slowly tried to process this, Seth walked out of the classroom and came over to me. His eyes followed my gaze and landed on Grant's and Steph's fingers. And, I swear, I saw him smile. Why in the world would he smile? I walked over to Grant and Steph and faked a smile.
