Surprise

My eyes nearly popped out of my head
when I heard his suggestion.

"Are you crazy?!?" I hissed. "My mom would never let me go that far away without her...and God knows what my brothers will do if I go to freaking Disney World with you, Steph, and Grant." But a girl can dream. I thought.

"Well, I know it will take forever to convince your family, but I'll think it'll be worth it, cupcake."

He said the last word with a mischievous glint in his eye.

"You aren't wrong about the first part. But why the sudden change of name?" I asked, confused.

"Just testing them all out. Seeing which one I think suits you. I know you'd prefer to be called 'love' but that's for when you're in a real relationship. So I decided to play around with them a bit," he shrugs.

I stared at him, awestruck. "Why haven't you ever had a girlfriend?" I blurt out. Wow. Nice.

"I don't know. I mean I guess I never found the right girl. I've had plenty of flings but never a real relationship."

He looked at me, "What about you? Why no boyfriend?"

I gave him an are-you-stupid look ,and I literally think I saw a little lightbulb turn on above his head. How do you forget two people who tried to assault you?

His eyes widened with realization, as he quickly said, "Oh."

I rolled my eyes.

"You're an idiot," I said.

"Maybe. But I'm your idiot," he reminded me, grinning. I burst out into laughter.

"What?" Seth asked, genuinely confused.

Between laughs I managed to get out "Line...Cheesy...Cringe...Funny!"

It took me a whole 5 minutes to calm the fuck down. Seth just stared at me, still confused. He looked rather cute.

I kissed his cheek and said, "You're cute when you're confused."

"Cute?" He raised his eyebrows. "Did you just call me cute?"

"Yep!" I announced proudly.

"You are so going to pay for that one."

That's when the torture started. The worst form of torture invented. My ultimate weakness. Tickling.

"AHHH SETH STOP! PLEASE!" I screamed.

"Not until you take it back."

"NO! I WON'T TAKE IT BACK!" I said in between laughs, trying to get away.

"Fine," he said, shrugging. He paused and, for a second, I thought that he was done. But then, it got worse.

He tickled me until I said, "SETH STOP!!!!! I'LL DO ANYTHING!"

Seth stopped, looked up, and smirked at me, "Anything?"

Shit. What did I just get myself in to?

I held my breath as Seth replied, "Anything as in..."

Erik and Jack burst into the room. Their faces were red ,and they looked like they could murder someone. Scratch that. If looks could kill, Seth would be... A not-so-pretty picture popped up into my head.

"You're taking," Erik said, as he paused to take a breath.

"Advantage of our sister," Jack finished.

I rolled my eyes at them.

"And you would know this because..." I trailed off.

Both of them suddenly looked very guilty. They looked at each other and an unspoken agreement passed between them.

Two statements were said at the same time.

"Erik might have been listening outside your door."

"Jack was listening outside your door."

They glanced at each other and slowly backed away without turning their backs. And, ladies and gentlemen, take notes. This is how to deal with overprotective brothers.

I pushed them out my room.

And then, because I'm the youngest and only the youngest can get away with it, I called, "Mom!"

"Yes, honey?" my mom asked.

Jack and Erik were down on their knees, with their hands clasped in front of them, as if begging for mercy.

I smiled evilly ,and, I kid you not, Jack and Erik flinched.

"Jack and Erik need the talk again," I called out.

It was a running joke in the family. It had started years ago when Jack and Erik mentioned that they wanted to hang up cameras in my room. At first, my mom laughed, thinking it was a joke. But, being the control freaks that they are, Erik and Jack had been dead serious.

And, that my friends, is when "the talk" started.

Jack and Erik stuck their tongue out at me and trailed downstairs with their heads down.

I walked back into the room where Seth was looking through my-

"SETH RACHEL REDFORD!" I demanded, snatching my diary from his hands.

Seth gave me a grin that made me furious.

"Does Lainey Wainey love the freckle on Grant's face?" he asked in a teasing voice. "And his lovely blue-"

Did you hear that thud just now? That's the sound of victory as I tackled him.

-

"Truth or dare?" he asked me. We had finished our homework a few minutes ago because, surprisingly, Seth was really smart.

We had played a few rounds of this already, but it had mostly just been simple things.

"Truth," I said, because Seth was known for his dares.

I thought it would be another question about my brothers or another embarrassing event. But, instead, this question blew me completely off guard as I tried to process it.

"Grant or me?" he asked, looking at me with his dark brown eyes.
