BTS- Come Back Home
I was at home listening to BTS's version of Come Back home. It was my first time hearing it and I instantly was hooked, much like the first time I ever listened to K-POP. I was still new to the K-pop world, and BTS became one of my favorites. The first group I listened to was Big Bang and it was their song Bang Bang Bang.
I thought it was funny how I picked up on popular terms like Oppa, Noona, Hyung, Bias, and Bias wrecker since I loved to learn new things. I'm the only one in my family that listens to K-pop. To be honest, though, I'm kind of the odd one out in my family. I listen to my own type of music, I'm super clumsy, I'm the only one who writes. I watch anime, I'm very disorganized and don't make lists (unlike my mom and sisters). I'm a bookworm, I'm not very athletic, and I'm the only one who wasn't a cheerleader. Call me one of a kind amongst them, like black sheep.
I can never say the words 'one of a kind' without thinking of G-Dragon. Opening another page on my computer to look up information on the song and something popped up on my browser. It was a contest to win a vacation in none other than Seoul, South Korea. Instantly I clicked on the link to enter, despite knowing that with my luck I wouldn't win. However, I figured it didn't hurt to try just in case, then at least I could say I tried.
Sighing I noticed the time and decided to head to bed but first went downstairs to take my medication. I had stayed up all night since I worked at night. Working third shift or the Graveyard shift was a lot of work since your body is usually at rest. So normally I slept all day. Waking up only to eat supper and go to the bathroom. Today was Tuesday and the contest winner was picked on Friday.
Thankfully if I did somehow manage to win the contest I had plenty of time to let my boss know. The tickets were for the last week of July/ first week of August and It was July 5th today. So, about a month notice with was wonderful. I had recently moved back home after being on my own for two years. I was 20 years old now. I had moved back because things weren't working out on my own, but thankfully my mom was more than happy to let me move back home.
To be honest I was a little worried about moving back home since I was used to my own rules. One of my sisters had just moved out with her boyfriend so it was just us three. All in all, it really wasn't all that bad. It was nice being able to see my mom and siblings every day once again. I worked part-time, and my days were Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays with my mom as my transportation.
Since I would be working hopefully Friday would come fast so I could figure out if I had won or not. At work, I turned on my K-pop playlist that consisted mainly of BIG BANG, Astro, NCT, BTS, Seventeen, Got7, and EXO. With a couple other groups thrown in. No girl groups though, I don't know why but I had never been a fan of female singers no matter the music genre. A cool thing about my employer was that I was able to listen to music while working, therefore, I would often listen to my kpop playlist while hard at work.
💜Time Skip to Friday💜
After getting home from work my phone went off saying I got a new email titled CONGRATULATIONS. Excitedly I unlocked my phone and opened my email.
Congratulations, Breanna you have been selected as the winner of our paid trip to Seoul for a whole week...
Instantly I squealed and ran back downstairs to tell my mom. "MOM! I won", I said excitedly handing her my phone as I jumped for joy." Her eyes widened as she read the email. "Congratulations honey, this is good news for you". I grinned even more, "I'm so excited but going to miss you guys though. I wonder how well I'll do on my own in South Korea, it's thrilling but slightly intimidating.
"But overall I'm really excited about this opportunity. I love to travel and explore after all." My mom smiled at me and chuckled a little as I rambled enthusiastically. " You'll be fine, just remember we're just a phone call away. You can call me whenever. I have confidence in you so don't worry okay?" I nodded and gave her a hug.
"Mom, to be honest, I'm the most worried about not knowing Korean," I confessed in a small voice. "Well, you're going to Seoul, right? I'm sure since all those entertainment agencies are there, that some people can speak at least some English and can help you out some." I smiled she always knew just what to say and I hugged her again, my mom really was the best. "Thanks, mom, I'm going to call work to let them know about needing that week off then head to bed". She nodded, "That's a good idea, Goodnight".
The days passed by slowly, but my excitement was a constant factor. As the day grew closer I grew restless. A couple of days before I got my hair cut. My dark brown hair was now asymmetrical in style. I also made sure to save a decent amount of money for the trip as well. I wanted to make sure to have a good time with good memories and plenty of souvenirs.
