She was just walking. Walking without destination. She came outside after the devastating news and headed for the mosque that was close to her school. The hospital was close to her school so she already knew of the mosque. It was for men only but she entered since she didn't spot anyone inside. She removed her sandals and slipped them at the back of the mosque. Upon entering she gazed up trying not to cry. Knowing it was futile stopping the tears she let them cascade down her chubby cheeks. She slumped to the ground and cried her heart out. In her mind were only questions. "Why did you leave us even after everything?. Why...Why....Why. Arent you guilty of leaving a child behind? Are you going to leave just like this? Don't you want to see my wedding?" she cried out.
Reaching for her back pocket she brought out a cute looking charm bracelet and put it on her hand.

It has an owl's face on one of the rows. Altogether were five rows, on the first row was a string with a circle attached to it, inside the circle is a tree. The second row was just a normal string with no designs while the third row had a string with two owls' head attached. The fourth row is the same cream colored string as the second but this was bigger and the fourth row was a white bandana-like string attached with a writing that says 'Where there is a will there's a way.' Looking at it she decided now wasn't the time for crying. She knew she needs to stay strong for Mama. But definitely not baba because the man is a pro when it comes to sealing his emotions. Besides he was outside the country oblivious to what was happening. She got up and started praying two raka'ahs of nafl. As she reached sujood, she poured her heart out to Allah. She asked for strength and prayed for her sister, she was in that position for a long time before raising her head up.
She came back to the hospital with a smile on her face. It didn't reach her eyes but she still smiled because after she prayed and poured her heart to Allah she felt as if a heavy load has been lifted off her chest. She went inside and tapped Mama who was sitting idle on one of the hallway chairs. "Mama, this is not the time to cry but instead the time to pray. We have to be strong. We have to be extremely strong because she left behind an innocent soul who is oblivious and we can't dishearten her. Now you are going to stand up,go home, freshen up and call our relatives to inform them."
Mama just smiled and nodded her head as if she was the daughter and Nadeen was the mother.
Ya Ahmad, Nadeen and Nadia's oldest cousin took Nadia from the hospital to his mom's house so she could be bathed(ritual bath) before brought to mama's house and finally to the mortuary.
Hajia Larai(ya Ahmad's mom) was sitted hands akimbo while wool gathering as she couldn't believe the news of Nadia's death. It also didn't help that she was the one to bath her.
Ahmad came inside with her on his arms. He tightly clutched her trying to reminisce his last memories with her. Nadia was just like his younger sister Amrat because Mama couldn't breastfeed her after giving birth to her due to some complications, therefore Hajia Larai breasfed her. So Nadia and him had a sis-bro relationship.
Azaad wasn't sad because she died but instead he was sad because of the different types of wahala (problems) he gave her. He considered himself a demon and monster as the memory of how he impregnated her came to his mind as a fresh one. In simple words yet complicated, his life was pretty fucked up.
Nadia was wrapped tightly in a white likkafani (white cloth meant for covering dead people) and was put on top of karkara (a bed made of sticks a dead person is made to lie on), carried over ya Ahmad, Ya Ameer(ya ahmad's younger brother), Baba and Baba Muntari(baba's twin brother) heads. Each of them holding one side with their arms over their shoulders.
Their neighbours' wives and their relatives were all present except one person. The men all muttered a salam and wa alaikumu salam was heard from most of the ladies, some struggling to rearrange their long hijabs ready to stand up and pray for Nadia.
Nadeen was shocked to see Baba because he was supposed to be in London for a business trip but nonetheless he got here before she was buried. That's Baba for you. She sighted the dead primate above them and immediately looked down.
They dropped her at the center of the room and all went to sit near Mama allowing baba access to talk to his daughter comfortably.
"I'm sorry Nadia, I'm sorry. I got you married to someone you never knew. I know Azaad's family all took care of you. That's one thing for sure but as your father I never bothered to ask you how you were coping with your husband. It's too late now, unfortunately."
"By the way I will make sure I fulfill your last wish". He leaned into her ear as he whispered. (A/N: For those wondering how he knew, Mama told him on phone)
He prayed for her and stood up to give room for others to pray too. Nadia came next and prayed fighting back tears but nonetheless she let them spill for the last time as crying is never the solution and it wouldn't bring her back.
