It was now 6:53.

My parents still haven't come home, so I've been sitting outside of my apartment for over 4 hours now. May and Peter had returned almost 2 hours ago, but I hid around the corner to not be seen by them. I didn't need to spend anymore extra time today around Peter than need be. I stood from my spot up against the door and stretched my arms over my head, letting out a breath.

Let's get this over with.

I stepped up to the door and knocked gently, rocking back on my heels. A few moments later, the door opened, revealing Peter standing behind it, "Come in." he murmured, moving out of the way.

Walking into the apartment, I could smell my favorite pasta being cooked in the kitchen. I smiled slightly and sat my bag down beside of the door, kicking my shoes off.

"Have you not been home?" Peter asked, raising an eyebrow at my stuff.

I cleared my throat and shrugged my shoulders before making my way towards the kitchen, "Hi, May."

"Oh! Hello, Peyton! Everything is just about done. You and Peter can go ahead and take a seat at the table." she smiled at me.

I nodded, following Peter to the small dining table, taking a seat in front of him. Glancing up at him, I saw he was staring down at his plate, his eyebrows furrowed. I tapped my fingers against the wooden table top, tilting my head slightly, "Okay," I started, "Talk."

"Uh, I thought-"

"I want to know why," I sighed, "Why did you lead me on like that? Why did you ask her out?"

"Because I thought what was going on between us was too good to be true; that everything was just going to fall apart-"

"The truth, Peter," I breathed, shaking my head, "You and I both know that's not the reason."

"Someone's after you." he stated quietly, running a hand through his hair, "I don't know if it's because of me or because of what your parents have been working on, but someone is after you and I thought I could keep you safe by staying away from you."

I froze in my seat, my eyes widening slightly, "Someone- what? Why? Why me?"

"Do you know what your parents work on at Oscorp?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

I slowly shook my head, "Surely nothing that could effect me, right?"

"Well.."

"What are we talking about?" May asked, bring in the bowl of pasta.

"The project in photography," Peter answered quickly, "I've been taking some random pictures as fillers."

This caused me to frown; I had completely forgotten about the project. I looked down at my plate and cleared my throat, "Oh, good. This looks great, May." I smiled up at the older woman, causing her to smile back.

"Thank you, dear. I noticed your parents car wasn't back when we got back. Have you been inside your apartment since you got home?"

I frowned slightly and shook my head, "No," I said quietly, "I left my key in my room and I guess my parents are getting some overtime today."

Peter shot me a look as he scooped some of the pasta onto his plate, "How much overtime have they been working?"

I thought over it, a frown forming on my face. It's been almost every day for the past two months, actually. I shook my head, "Enough about that," I waved my hand, "How's the hospital treating you, May?"

"It was delicious, May." I smiled at her as I started to follow Peter towards his room, "Is it alright if I hang out for a bit?"

"You know you're more than welcome here, Peyton." May replied, smiling brightly at us.

Peter grabbed my wrist gently and pulled me into his room, closing the door behind him. I instantly took a seat on his bed, a sigh escaping my lips, "At least it wasn't meatloaf."

Peter chuckled and sat beside of me, nodding in agreement, "When we went to the store, she goes, 'We have to get Peyton's favorite! We have to let her know that we still want her around.'"

"Ah," I laughed, "The way to my heart is food."

Rolling his eyes, he nudge my shoulder with his, "So.. do you forgive me?"

"Of course," I nodded, "It would have been nice if you told me that before you went behind my back and asked her out, but still. I forgive you."

He smiled at me; our eyes locking, "Do you want to know what your parents are working on?" he whispered.

"You're ruining our moment." I breathed, leaning closer to him, "You can tell me later."

Peter swallowed and nodded, his eyes dropping from my own down onto my lips. I smiled slightly, taking matters into my own hands and closing the space between us, our lips meeting softly.
