I walked into Granny's and sat down across from Emma. We had been long distance friends for years, and whenever she moved I always came to see the new place.

This was by far the weirdest place she had ever lived. She was staying with this lady named Mary Margret. They were in this cute little apartment, and she was with her son.

She had insisted we went to this restaurant. I had decided It couldn't be that bad. So, here we where, ordering off plastic menus.

The door opened, and I naturally looked up to see who it was. I was sitting towards the door, so I just looked up. Emma turned around to see who it was, and quickly turned back to her menu, scowling.

The older man hobbled in, most of his weight rested on his cane. He scanned the room as the door shut behind him. His long brownish grey hair brushed his shoulders.

When his eyes hit mine I could feel his black eyes searching my soul for every ach it had ever felt. He gave me one of the most genuine, toothy smiles I had ever seen.

I knew at that very moment that I had never wanted anything more in my life then I wanted him, even though it only lasted for a millisecond. His smile quickly, too quickly, turned back into the smirk he wore when he first came in.

He walked over to the counter, and the old woman behind the counter handed him a bunch of money. He took the money and left. It was that simple. He didn't even say a thing. He just took the money and left, but he had so much authority. The hole place was silent the hole time he was there.

As soon as he was gone the waitress rushed over to me, "Honey, you really shouldn't look at Mr. Gold like that. He's a private man, and doesn't like to be watched."

"What's he gonna do about me looking at him?" I laughed at the thought. What was that short, crippled man going to do to me for looking at him?

"He's a very powerful man. It would do you good to just stay out of him way." The old woman added.

*the next day*

I was window shopping, peaking in window after window. I had only been walking around for about an 30 minutes when I came across a shop with the name Mr. Gold in big letters across the front.

'Mr. Gold', that name had been running through my mind on an endless loop since yesterday. The waitress, Ruby, had warned me. I had told myself I would keep my distance, but I couldn't.

It was a small, dimly lighted room, filled to the rim with odds and ins. It wasn't my type of shop, but I wasn't there to shop.

"Oh, it's the young lady who had the nerve to stare me down at Granny's yesterday." His voice sent shivers down my spine. He walked out of the back room, up to the counter at the front.

I pressed my lips, trying to come up with something to say. There was nothing. Well, there were some thing, but I wasn't about to come right out and ask him out. He didn't strike me as the kind of man to date women who are younger then him.

"Yeah."

"Are you feeling alright dearie?"

"Yes." I walked towards the counter he stood behind, "Why?"

"Your face is quite red, and you seem to be a bit disoriented."

"Yeah, I guess this is just how I act around attractive men." My hands flew to my mouth when I heard what I said.

He smirked, "Is that so? I hope you will forgive me for being so straight forward, but would you like to go out to dinner with me tonight?"

I starred at him in disbelief, "Y-yeah."

"Okay, I will pick you up at 6:00. Where are you staying?"

"With Mary Margret and Emma." I walked up to the counter.

"Now, how can I help you?" He leaned on his cane.

"Uh... nothing."

His smirk grew as he snickered at me, "Well, I do believe you have a date tonight. So," he walked around the counter and picked a necklace from one of the necklace trees. Then he walked back over to me "Turn around."

I'd did as he told me. He put the necklace on me. The tips of his fingers grazed my neck, and I felt my heart leap from my chest. I held the gold jewel up so I could see it, "I can't take this."

"Well dearie, consider it payment."

I looked around for a mirror, "Payment for what?"

"After you are seen with me people will treat you differently."

"I don't care. You seem like a perfectly fine man." He chuckled. "Why are there no mirrors in here?" I looked at a place on the wall where it looked like one had hung.

"I recently removed them all."

I turned around, "Why?"

"They just bothered me I guess." He made a face:

A/n: sorry for posting a random picture. I wanted you all to understand what face he was making so you could be there.

"Strange.. Anyway, I guess I'll be on my way then. I'll see you later." I walked over to the door.

"Wait." I turned around, "You never gave me a name."

"Oh," I laughed at myself, "Y/N. What's your's?"

"Mr. Gold."

I laughed again, "I meant your first name."

"You can call me Gold if you like"

I rolled my eyes and left.
