Alec Gold had spent all day working on a deal with an insurance agency a ways away from Stroybrook. He had booked a room at an inn just outside of this town. On his way back to the inn he spotted a bar. It had been a long day and a drink couldn't hurt.

Alec pulled into the gravel parking lay. He flinched when he heard it kick up from his tires hitting the slick black Cadillac.

After checking for dents he went inside. There was a live band and it was dark. Smoke filled the air. He went to the bar and took a seat. He ordered a scotch and got a look from the bar tender, but he got the drink for Alec.

He took a sip and looked around. This wasn't the type of place he was used to. People were dressed in worn out jeans and boots. Most men were in ball caps.

Alec shook his head and looked back to his drink.

After a few minutes a woman came to sit next to him. She was in cut off blue jeans and a white tank top. Not much of a woman if you asked Gold, to put her body on display like that.

Her boot clad feet swung as she ordered a beer. When the bar tender went to get her drink she turned to him, "What ya drinkin'?"

"Scotch." He answered simply.

"Ah? Scotch is a bit fancy for this place, but you look like you are too." She tucked a stray strand of brown hair behind her ear.

He snorted, "Indeed."

"One word answers huh? I'm Amy. What's you name?"

"Gold."

"Interesting." Amy sipped on her drink. Her head snapped up at the sound of the new song the band had moved to. "Friends in low places."

"Excuse me?" Alec questioned.

"The song. Oh I love this song. Dance with my Gold?" She grabbed his hand and pulled him to the dance floor.

He struggled to get his cane under him in time. He successfully got to the dance floor and danced the song with her, shaking his head at the song the hole time.

The next song was slow. She flashed him a big toothy smile, and took a step close to him. She took both of his hands and took his cane. She leaned it against the wall.

"I need th-"

"No." She cut him off. "Just lean on me. I've got you."

He hesitatingly leaned on her as they danced. Gold was at peace for about thirty seconds. Then he was pushed away from the girl and into the wall. He grabbed the gold handled cane to catch himself.

The large man was yelling at Amy. "Ame! What are you doing with this yuppie (for anyone who doesn't know; Yuppie is a term for city people)? Why don't you come over here with me and the guys."

"Chad, I can make my own decisions. He happens to be nice." She folder her arms over her chest.

Chad grabbed her arm. He started to say something, but Alec was pushing him away before he could say anything, "I think you can let lassie make her own decisions." He growled through gritted teeth.

"Yeah? And what are you going to do about it old man?" Chad laughed.

"Well, if I must, I will show you."

"Oh yeah?" The bigger man smirked, "You are what? Five foot?"

"Five eight." Gold stared up at the man. Who just laughed and started to push Gold out of his way.

In one swift move Gold raised his cane hitting the man square in the face then between the legs.

"Now," Gold look down at the sick excuse of a man on the floor, "we are going to let the lassie do what she wishes. Aren't we?"

He tuned back to the woman who was looking at him in a way no one ever had. "My hero." She mused.

"I'm far from a a hero. I'm more of a villain."

She laughed, "Not to me. Where did you learn how to do that? No offense, but you don't look like the type of guy to be able to take down Chad."

"I took lessons." He lied. He wasn't about to say; I picked it up from being The Dark One for three hundred years.

"I think I'm gonna head home for the night." She smiled, "Will I see you again?"

"I'm in town for the week. Perhaps we could go for lunch one day."
