15. The Confession

Lucas's PoV

I want to tell him. I have to tell him. I'm going to tell him. Not now, but soon.

"Lucas? You okay?" Ness asks me. "You're being really fidgety and you're breathing way quickly."

"Yeah, I'm f-fine." I say. I stuttered. I'm found out.

"Nah. You're nervous, are'ncha?" Ness presses, a smile on his face. I blush.

"No." I say, crossing my arms and letting out a huff.

"Yeah, okay, sure." He says, pouting. He looks at me. "Why're ya nervous."

"I'm not."

"Yeahhhhh you are."

"Ness, I'm not."

"Lucas, I know nervous when I see it."

"Okay, sure, but there's one thing you aren't calculating."

"What's that?"

"I'm not nervous."

"Dude. I've been nervous before. You should have seen me in the first smash. My goodness."

I make a grumpy face and he puts his arm around me. I almost melt.

"What's wrong?" He asks me sincerely. I sigh.

"Th-There's this guy that I like... A-A lot. But I don't know if he likes me back or not..." I say, looking down. He doesn't need to know who it is.

He takes a breath. "I'm sure he likes you back. Or he won't reject you at least. Just tell him how you feel." Ness says, giving me a quick smile. My stomach does a backflip.

"I-I'll tell him to-tonight." I say. Stupid me, making a stupid promise. Good job, Lucas. Probably just going to bail or something.

"Good job." He rubs my shoulder. I hug him.

"Ness?" I catch his attention.

"Yes, Lucas?"

"Can... Can you walk me to his room?" I ask him.

"Sure, I wanna meet my friend's new boyfriend." He gives me a smile. It's half-hearted. Why did I agree to this? I walk him around the mansion, stopping in front of Donkey Kong's room. Ness looks at me weirdly.

"Whatever you say, I guess." He says, raising his fist to knock on the door.

"No, no." I say, grabbing his arm.
"I was joking." I lead him back around to room 15.

"So you aren't going to tell him?" Ness asks, confused.

"Wh-Who said that?" I say, smiling. I hug Ness tight and talk quietly into his ear after letting go.

"Ness, I... I like you a lot. I know you probably have someone already, but I just wanted to let you know... I-I'm sorry if th-this ruins our friend-friendship or something." I say. He stays silent and opens the door. I behind him as he walks inside. Ness closes the door.

"Ness? I-" I'm interrupted by him kissing me. I'm surprised at first, but I soon melt into the kiss, cupping his cheeks.

He pulls away and looks me in the eye. He hugs me tightly.

"I like you a lot as well. For realsies."

For realsies.
