[E D I T E D]PEACE OF MIND
❝life is simply a mix of mayhem and magnolias, so embrace this gentle riot and gather flowers along the way.❞15. Leaving Limitations

❝No, a favour.❞
Both father and daughter stare at each other for a while. The room, aside from the pair, is barren of anything. It seems as though the man had spent half a year in a white room with nothing to occupy his thoughts except for himself.
Loki paces around his daughter, circling her like prey, with his hands held stiffly behind his back. He's thinking. The soft wrinkles on his forehead scream to Elizabeth that she ought not speak over his concentration so she remains silent, watching carefully as her father continued his saunter around her, and begins to get nervous. Her time is running out.
Tony Stark had given her five minutes. She had a mere two left and she needed a decision quickly.
❝In the face of mass destruction and uncertainty, you turn to me. Why?❞
Loki muses, more to himself than to Elizabeth, but he seems keenly interested in her response.
❝Family comes first.❞
Her father's pace falters. Elizabeth hears him inhale deeply, taking in a shaky breath, and the exhale sharply before looking at her properly. It seemed as though his eyes knew her every little secret, that just by looking her in the eyes, he knew everything about her, but she didn't shy away. Instead, she met his gaze with the same amount of power as she had wanted to.
He raises his eyebrow quickly and smirks. Loki turns around.
One minute left.
❝Please.❞
The man grimaces to himself and turns back to face Elizabeth. She was shaking, on the brink of stubborn tears, and looked like the spitting image of how he had looked all those years ago. She was strong, Loki knew this, and, just like him, she was a curious soul but, much unlike him, she was fiercely loyal. She depended on people, something that her father felt mixed about, but people also depended on her.
And the underlying tone of begging in her voice was enough to make it impossible to deny.
❝The spell may not work-❞
❝-try. Please just try.❞
❝It is very dark magic-❞
❝-please.❞
Time was running low. So low, in fact, that Tony Stark was merely
four doors away.
The alarms sounded almost immediately as the metal of the chains around Loki's wrists rusted into a dark brown and fell to the floor with a resounding thud. At the removal of the magic suppressing cuffs, there was a powerful wave of energy that seemed to flood the room. The race was on.
Loki purses his lips, frowning slightly, and harshly grabs his daughter's hand. With a violent pinch, he conjures a dagger and drags it across the fleshy palm. As the dark crimson sluggishly leaks, Elizabeth flinching back harshly in delayed fear at processing what had happened, Loki begins. Elizabeth watches as her father's experienced hands, fingers smeared with her blood, begin to fluidly move. Nothing seemed to happen for a while. For a few seconds, it seemed as though Loki were conjuring nothing at all, but then there was a blinding light.
Three doors away.
It takes a moment for the pair to get used to the bright light, both wincing slightly, before Loki roughly grabs a hold of Elizabeth's shoulder for a second time and pulls her close. Quickly, the white light turns inky and black, spreading like thin whips in the air, and consumes itself into a large abyss.
And there it is. A portal. To where, neither party knew. To who, however, was another question.
The doorway was black, completely and utterly black, and the tendrils of magic seemed to curl towards the two like a fabric in the wind.
Two doors away.
Elizabeth takes a deep breath, ready for whatever adventure her life was about to lead to, and takes a slow step forward.
❝Thank you.❞
Her father's grip on her shoulder only intensifies. Elizabeth looks over her shoulder to see Loki's cold and calculating eyes. He seemed to be weighing up his own choices.
❝You cannot go alone.❞
He spits out and Elizabeth's face scrunches up in confusion.
❝You will be crushed by the gateway's magic unless someone who can handle the power comes alongside you to sustain it. Your mortal body is much too fragile to be able to withstand Asgardian crafts. ❞
Elizabeth thinks for a moment.
One door away.
And Tony can see them. The only thing between them all is one glass door and his body goes into overdrive. He bellows for Jarvis to open the door, the AI doing so immediately, and runs at the duo.
But by the time he gets even close, Loki and Elizabeth are pulled into the abyss. The black tendrils harshly tug on their torsos and pulls them both backwards into the liquid. Their bodies getting instantly covered by the tar like substance, Tony can see Loki's mouth moving but can't put the words together, Elizabeth looks as sure of herself as she always does.
Just as Elizabeth's chin becomes submerged by the liquid of the portal, all Tony can see is her mouth 'sorry' and then she's gone. Gone forever. Gone to somewhere he doesn't understand, and he tries to go after them. He instantly runs to the empty black abyss. He grabs at the portal. He tries to submerge himself just as the two before him done yet it turns to gas the moment, he touches it in desperation and, before his very eyes, it is gone.
Taking Elizabeth with it.
END OF BOOK ONE
[authors note]
Wowza okay - so this is finished, or not rly. I have two more book ideas for this one so don't go just yet but I'll probably start it later on. The next book is definitely going to be a movement away from the Avengers and more into alternate universe territory as the mcu never really went into the nine realms in detail. Any who, there will also be some crossovers, as well, so make sure to carry on reading for that as well as some Loki love.
See you guys soon!
