~Cam's POV~
I put on the dress mom bought for me to wear on Ken's engagement day. It was a knee-length, red coloured, sleeveless, velvet dress. I admit that it was a nice dress. Not too tight, not too short, not too sexy. Just the way I wanted.
Red was Ken's favourite colour. Ken and Amelia both decided the theme for their engagement was red. All family members from both sides wore red. But guests are free to wear whatever colour they wished to wear.
Someone knocked on the door. "Come in," the door opened and mom approached. She wore a long red dress. She looked beautiful in it. Well she always looked beautiful in every way. "Hey mom," I smiled at her.
"Oh my god. You look so pretty," she told me. She was holding a black box.
"What's that mom? That black box. What's in it?" I asked.
"It's a make-up box. Your face is naked,"
"Oh no. I still have a skin on my face. It's not naked,"
"Whatever, sit down,"
Unfortunately, mom was true. My face looked so naked. Unwillingly, I walked to my dressing table and sat on the stool. Her magic hands started to work on my face. I hoped I don't look like a clown or Barbie. Clown is too weird-looking, while Barbie wear tons of make-up to cover her ugly face. I never liked Barbie dolls since I was little. I always said that it was fake. Indeed, for me, it was.
"Done!" she exclaimed before putting both hands on her chest and smiled.
"What?" I asked. I was about to turn to have a look at the mirror when my friends burst into my room.
"Oh my god, Cam! You're so beautiful!" Serena exclaimed.
"This is a miracle," Jess said with her eyes wide open.
"No, it's a magic. Wait, what?!" Debb looked at me looking confused.
"Are you real? Or is this a dream?" Didie slapped her face with both hands lightly.
"We came here early just to make-up your face. We thought we would do it together. And we came here with naked faces just for you! As a payment, the miracle-worker must work her magic on our faces. So, who is it?!" Gwen explained and asked me excitedly.
I looked at mom and smiled at her. "Looks like you have more work to do, mom," my friends looked at mom with a puppy face.
Mom chuckled and said, "Okay, girls. Line up," she started to work her miracle on my friends. I stood and walked over to my bed and sat on it. "Cam, come here and help me," I rolled my eyes and walked to the dressing table again.
I stood in front of it and glanced at the mirror. I was shocked to see the person in the mirror. My mouth hung open a little and I closed it back. I gulped hard and chuckled.
I was the host for the evening. It was a last minute plan. My cousin, Vanessa, was suppose to be the host and I become the receptionist, but mom changed our duty. She said that Vanessa is friendly, so she could welcome people well, while me, I'm not friendly but good at giving a talk. I don't know whether it was true or not. But looks like she was right I guess, about Vanessa.
As a host, I have to prepare something to talk about, but what's there to talk about on that mini stage? It's not like it's a wedding. It's just an engagement party. Humans are weird, and I am a human, so that means I'm weird too.
As all guests were seated, I walked up on the mini stage and started my talk. "Good evening, everyone. And thanks for coming today. We're here to celebrate Ken and Amelia's engagement. It was a very shocking news when I heard it..." I continued on to talk and tried to be funny but failed many times. I swear, I'm not a good joker."...so let's cheer up for them. Cheers." I lifted up a glass of wine and drank it. "Thank you." I said, ending my short-talk.
