Fireflies

It was almost night-time, the sun's rays were slowly disappearing into the ground, leaving behind a faded pink and orange sky. I stared at the ceiling, arms and legs outstretched widely, eagerly waiting for my white-haired friend to appear.

Killua was having dreams about his brother again. Nightmares were frequent these past few days, many ideas have been tried, but none really did anything to help. Only hot showers and something to cling on to seemed to calm his mind a little.

Killua could sleep once his head hit a pillow, but after a couple minutes, his forehead would start to glisten with sweat. In just five minutes, startled blue eyes would snap open, and he would jolt awake, hair an even bigger mess, lips parted silently in mid-scream.

I would ask him what exactly he was dreaming of, but he would always furrow his eyebrows and shake his head. Always offer me a weak, reassuring smile, even though his hands were trembling.

Well, he tried.

It worried me to no end.

Rolling back and forth on the carpet floor, "Killluaaaaa." I whined.

No response.

But the sound of running water did stop.

I sat up, eyeing the bathroom door excitedly. Fumbling could be heard as a frustrated groan resounded from the room. The doorknob clicked open as Killua walked out, eyes half closed with a towel that ruffled his snowy locks. He didn't even bother to put on his shirt, only adorning a pair of dark-colored shorts.

Before I could say or do anything, he was already drowsily making his way towards me. I smiled warmly and raised my arms in an invitation to hug. Grinning tiredly in appreciation, Killua collapsed onto my body, gladly wrapping his limbs around my torso, not unlike a koala.

I continued to smile, pressing my lips into his shoulder and clasping my hands together against his back. He smelled like a crisp night walk in a pine-scented forest. The atmosphere was like fireflies, warm and fluttery and gentle.

Killua's POV

The moment Gon wrapped his arms around me, all my worries gradually ebbed away. I could feel the way his chest moved with each breath; his cheek brushed mine as he planted a barely noticeable "kiss" on my shoulder.

My eyelids remained slightly open as I was too afraid to sleep. The ground blurred from time to time, but never did I close my eyes for very long. Gon called my name softly, which I replied with a sleepy inquiring hum.

"Can I...Is it ok if I...ummm.....touch...your back?"

All I could do was hum again, agreeing to whatever he just said without a care to the world.

I trusted Gon. Very much.

A light chuckle vibrated from his throat, I felt the lips on my shoulder smile playfully. And I, too, let out a tiny lopsided smile.

"I'm going to start now, 'kay?"

No one's POV

A finger pressed onto Killua's spine, making him shudder and strengthen his hold on Gon's body uncontrollably. The finger then began to move in a slow "S" shape down his back. Tingles erupted from the touch, bumbling erratically. This was repeated a few times, after every round, Killua slowly loosened his grip and let out a content sigh.

Gon grinned warmly, lifting his other finger to trace Killua's shoulder blades, which caused a flinch. But then his whole body relaxed, Killua subconsciously started to analyze the strokes, trying to pinpoint the fingers' next move. If he was right, the jumpy feeling would decrease, but if he was wrong, the tingles would dance around even more mischievously. It felt like fireflies. Killua secretly hopes he gets most of them wrong.

They stayed like that, wrapped in each other's embraces as the moon rose into the cloudless sky filled bright, twinkling stars. Gon droned on and on about all their adventures, pausing to laugh and nuzzle Killua's cheek, all the while his fingers glided over tense muscles. Killua just listened, the light smile never leaving his face.

"Can you sleep now?" Gon whispered.

Killua groaned defiantly, "Don...wanna."

Gon smirked wickedly, and all ten fingers were dragged quickly and lightly down and up pale skin. Killua squeaked, cheeks heating up fairly quickly, he bit his lip in embarrassment.

"Whoops, sorry." Drawled a lazy voice.

Killua pouted, too tired to control himself, "'m tick...lish..."he murmured into his arm.

Silence.

"Really?" Gon trailed, tracing teasing circles in the middle of Killua's back, a devilish smile already lifting up the corners of his lips.

"I...haha...stoooop."

"I'll stop if you go to sleeeep."

"Naaaooo-!"

Ten digits again scribbled delicately over toned milky skin, causing an explosion of tingling; the fireflies were everywhere.

Killua giggled unevenly, "Dohohon't."

"Go to sleep then." Gon replied casually, blowing a gust of air into Killua's ear.

An adorable squeal was heard as Killua flinched away, more giggles spilled from his mouth. He shook his head in opposition, eyes crinkling, lips spread out into the biggest, most genuine grin. Gon beamed and mercifully started to massage the feeling away.

"Please go to sleep. For me, yeah?"

Killua sighed comfortably and hummed in childish consideration, "Maaaybe." He said, sticking out his tongue smugly, still retaining his usual snarky attitude, "if you gimme a kiss... "

"Consider that done." Gon winked cutely, pecking Killua's nose before capturing his lips sweetly.

> 3 < ~ (love you all, too! Chu~)

Killua nodded slowly as they pulled away, "Guess that's...good enough."

"Aww poo." Gon laughed, puckering his lips in mock-sadness, " Your standards are way too high. C'mon you should be sleeping now."

"Mmmm...Fiiine." Killua slurred, placing his chin back on Gon's shoulder, "Can you...y'know...?" A meager yawn escaping his mouth.

"Yeah, yeah. I know." Gon said, snuggling into the crook of Killua's neck.

Killua laughed softly when Gon's hair tickled his ear and closed his eyes, imagining the lines traced onto his back. The carpet floor turned black as he fell asleep swiftly, shoulders sagging and breath deepening.

Tonight, he dreamed of fireflies and his best friend.
