I could take off this mask,
But you'd run away if I did.
So instead you see an innocent girl
With lies frosting her lips.
I would ask you what you saw in me,
If I could muster up the strength-
Yet I'm afraid to hear your answer,
So I play along with the game.
I saw you stare from across the room,
But I pretended not to see-
Until I looked and saw
The way he looked at me.
Oh, didn't you notice, how I looked away
When you told me you liked me
What was I supposed to say?
Perhaps it is a good thing
That I am afraid to love,
Because no matter what I do
The strings always come undone.
So I'm so very sorry-
I'm not one for goodbyes
And I left without finishing the game
And took both the dice.
