It had been five years.
Five whole years since they'd seen or heard from one another.
He was deployed so far she was certain they'd never see one another again.

Courtney walked though her house, that he bought before he left.
She smiled as she made herself another coffee.
She let out a small sigh as she glanced from her coffee mug to the clock.

"Ugh.. Two already? Boy, Sunday's stroll by quickly." She shook her head.
She poured her coffee then grabbed her phone from her pocket, dialling Olivia's number as she walked toward the backyard.

"Hey Liv, it's me" she said with a smile as she sipped her coffee.

"Yeah, Koda's fine I was just checking in" she shook her head as she glanced at the two boys in the back yard.

"Okay, I'll see you soon. Bye" and with that she hung up the phone.
She placed her phone on the table before opening the sliding glass doors.

"Koda, you're mother will be here in an hour" Courtney called as the small boy looked up at her from the sandpit in her backyard.
He smiled, nodding then turning back to his playmate.

"Hey mama!" Danny called as he threw the sand around.

"Hey baby" Courtney smiled, walking toward her son.
"Having a fun birthday?" She smiled, rustling his blonde hair.

"Yea. But who's that!" He called pointing toward the gate to the front yard.

"Who's who, baby?" Courtney asked, growing slightly anxious of an intruder.

Her eyes darted to the fence as she clutched her coffee.
She froze, starring directly at the open gate, and whom stood in it.

She dropped her coffee, feeling tears well in her eyes as she broke into a sprint.

Standing in the gate, in camouflage overalls was her husband.
He dropped his duffle bag as Courtney leapt into his arms, wrapping her legs around his waist and tucking her head into his neck.

"You're back, I can't believe you're back" she said in a muffled tone as tears continued to fall.
Shayne held her, a smile plastered to each others faces as she leant away from him.

He still held her in his arms as she leant in and kissed him.

After a few solid second they parted and he put her down.

"Uh, Daniel!" Courtney called, gesturing for the little boy.
She wiped tears from her face as the now, five year old ran over.

"Shayne, this is Danny." She said, smiling.

"Hey kiddo." Shayne crouched down and pat his head.

"Danny, this is your father." Courtney uttered, wiping tears still.
Shayne looked up at her, a shocked look as he grabbed her cheeks and kissed her again,

"W- we have a son?" He shook.
Courtney continued to cry as Shayne wiped her tears away.
He kissed her again before returning to the boy.

"Hey kiddo.. I- I'm your dad" he shuttered, tears falling down his cheeks for the first time in five years.
Danny giggled, wrapping his arms around Shayne as Shayne hugged him back.

Shayne walked inside, the kid still in his arms as they began to talk.
Courtney smiled, looking down to his open duffle bag.
She picked it up to carry inside when she noticed a piece of paper on top of everything.
She picked it up and looked at it, a smile still glued to her cheeks as she saw, it was the picture he took of her seven years ago..
The day they got engaged.
