I walked along the sidewalk, aiming for the mall. Marissa had taken off there and asked me to meet her when I had gotten up. Apparently, Kayla and Sarah were there, too.
"Going somewhere?" A voice asked, making the hairs in the back of my neck stand up. I spared a glance to see Tom walking along beside me.
"None of your business." I responded. I sped up my pace. I could see the mall up ahead. There were so many people out walking on such a nice day, there's no way he would try anything.
Would he try anything? I don't even have any reason to believe he would, do I? I've met him twice, and although both times were weird, he didn't seem harmful.
"I live in this town. I know all of the dangers that lurk in the shadows. Pretty girl like you shouldn't be out alone." He remarked, walking next to me with a matched pace.
"What dangers? The so called wild animal attacks? An animal out this far is absurd." I barked, clutching my phone tightly in my hand. If I needed to, I could call the police faster than he could hurt me.
"There's more than wild animals that traveled farther than they should have." Tom stated, grabbing my arm.
I yanked my arm away, walking even faster than before. I was on high alert now. Was he trying to kidnap me?
"I'm not trying to hurt you! I'm just trying to get you to understand! Let me escort you to wherever you're going." He stated, harshly, might I add.
"I can get there all by myself!" I said.
"Is there a problem here?" Someone asked, walking towards us. It was Steven.
Tom frowned visibly and grumbled. "We're all fine here."
"He's not bothering you, is he?" He asked me, turning to me. His green eyes were so full of concern.
"It's fine. I'm just trying to meet up with the girls." I told him.
"I'm just trying to escort her so she doesn't end up dead." The older brother responded.
"I think she's safe." Steven remarked, grabbing my hand. "Come on, I'll take you there."
I trusted Steven more than I did Tom. Although both of them screamed "weird", Steven seemed a lot gentler, more soft and sweet.
I reached the mall, sending Mar a quick text to ask her what store she was in and to tell her I was here. I turned to The green eyed man that walked me here and smiled as politely as I could force myself to be. "Thanks."
"No problem. I just know how my brother can be. He's right, it's dangerous, but only at night." He stated. He pushed his hands in his pockets and shrugged.
I nodded. "So I've heard."
He eyes my arm, where I had been cut days before. "How's your arm? Sorry I walked out on you.... Blood makes me squeamish."
I shrugged. "It doesn't hurt anymore or anything. And it's okay, I understand. I used to be squeamish about blood when I was a kid. Then I watched The Walking Dead and now I kind of enjoy seeing people on movies get brutally murdered." A teasing tone ended my sentence.
Steven chuckled softly. "Whatever makes you happy. I won't keep you any more. Have a good day."
"Yeah, you too." I said, waving slightly as I turned to go inside.
"Hey, wait!" I turned back, seeing red coating the man's cheeks. "Uhm... I was wondering, do you want to go see a movie sometime? Or maybe get some dinner? N-Not as a date! Just to get to know each other more. We have all the same friends so..." he shrugged.
I laughed, smiling at the way his cheeks lit up. "Sure. I'd like that. I'm always free."
"Alright. Good. Tomorrow?" He smiled the cutest little smile I had ever seen.
I nodded. "Tomorrow sounds great."
I turned to head inside, immediately being pulled into the bathroom by Marissa. "What was that?" She asked.
"What was what?" I responded, the smile from before turning into a line of confusion.
"You and Steven!" She exclaimed. She was grinning from ear to ear, like she knew some big secret. "Are you guys gonna go out?"
I rolled my eyes. I loved this girl to death but sometimes she could be too much to handle. "Mar, we're just friends. We are gonna get to know each other. Not a date."
"Whatever you say." She smirked, walking out of the nasty ass smelling bathroom.
I rolled my blue eyes again and followed after her. I'm sure our entire friend group would learn about this real quick.

I walked back along the way we came, smiling softly. She was so much different than I expected her to be. Sapphire had been a manipulative bitch. She had been sexy and dark and dangerous, but she had been ruthless and destructive. She had destroyed the relationship I had with my brother because she wanted to toy with us both. Now, we lived lives of bloodshed and death.
Lapis wasn't like that. She was as human as could be. She was smart and beautiful and kind. She trusted what she knew and fled from what she didn't. Being around her made me feel more happy and human than I have felt since before Sapphire came into my life.
"She's a smart one, that girl. I wonder, could she be as good in bed as her look a like?" Tom asked as he walked along next to me.
"Stay away from her." I hissed, trying to ignore his jabs.
"I would if I could, but she's in our friend group. I wonder, does her human blood taste the same as Sapphire's Vampire blood?"
I pushed Tom into the wall of the nearest building. I glared, my green eyes turning red and gray veins forming underneath. "Don't. Touch. Her."
Tom smirked, grabbing onto my shoulders. "Dear brother, you're causing a scene."
I released him and walked away. As soon as I was sure no one was looking, I sped away, back to my home that I sadly shared with the blonde dickhead I called my brother.
If he so much as looked at Lapis the wrong way, I'd drive a stake right through his heart.
