Chapter 10 - Feelings
KARINA HART
And to think she needed to stay away from him.
Kari felt her eyes roll in the back as her hands slid down his chest and around his waist.
His hands cupped her face as his lips moved over hers, pulling her under the emotions that were flooding her system.
He pulled back and all Kari wanted to do was kiss him again.
"You're not leaving." He said, his voice raspy.
"Bu-"
Zach didn't let her even complete the word. His lips crashed on hers, molded to hers.
They fit like puzzle pieces and that scared the hell out of Kari.
Never had she ever experienced this kind of intimacy.
Sure she'd had her series of one night stands when she was a teenager. Even after her divorce.
But never had she felt what she felt with Zach.
"Zach..." She pleaded but even she didn't know whether she was telling him to let her go or just kiss her some more.
Zach let her go. Taking a step back he wiped his mouth with the back of his hand.
"You're not leaving." He panted, his voice husky.
Kari was so blown she didn't even know what he was talking about
"Do I make myself clear?"
"What?" She whispered and then suddenly her brain kicked into gear.
Stan. Danger. Leaving.
Right.
"But...." she trailed off not knowing what to say.
Hotel. Try hotel.
"Yes, right. I already booked a room."
Zach turned and walked towards his so called kitchen.
"That's the only thing you could come up with?"
"Umm.."
He turned to her with a bottle of water in hand and smirked. Tipping the bottle towards her he said smugly, "I like the effect I have on you."
She pursed her lips though all she wanted to do was grab him and do more than just kiss him.
"You're an ass."
"Nope. Just a realist"
He wasn't, she was. If he was in fact a realist, he'd let her go. He wouldn't insist on letting her live with him, under the same roof.
Coldn't he see that she was a danger to him?
Kari took a step and another and another and before she knew it, she was right there in front of him. She pulled him in a fierce hug.
"Thank you."
"For what exactly." he stood there in her arms, frozen. His hands never came around her but she didn't let him go. For once she liked standing there, so close to him, her face pressed in his chest.
She loved the way he smelled like beach and sunrise and pure male.
"I don't know what I'd do without you."
Finally, finally, his hands came around her and he pulled her even close. She closed her eyes letting her other senses take over.
"I'll be there for you, always."
"Why would you do that?" she mumbled as she breathed him in deeply.
"Don't you know by now, doll. I like you."

Kari tossed and turned on her bed.
"Damnit." she whisper-yelled. Sleep wouldn't come. The events of the evening kept replaying in her mind.
She sat up, resting against the headboard of the bed. Wrapping her hands around he knees she tried to contemplate her choices. One - she could go knock on his door and there would be no turning back later. Two - she could just wait for morning and talk about it in the morning. Three - she could sit here and say nothing and just go on about her life.
Sighing she looked out of the window that was open. Cool breeze blew in and she breathed it in. She had nothing else to do and closing her eyes, breathing in the fresh cool air helped calm her nerves.
But it also brought back a memory.
A memory of her right there on her bed, Zach hovering over her, so close she could kiss him. And kiss she did.
Gasping she opened her eyes, Zach wasn't there but it felt so very real. Shit ! She was going insane.
Exactly. That was it. She was going crazy because she couldn't handle so much pressure. Pressure about Stanley, about her life, about Zach.
Blowing out a breath Kari stood up. She hadn't lived her life in a long time. And what if she wanted Zach. What if she wanted to feel his body against hers. To feel his moans and growls resonate through her. To be the one to bring out his pleasure.
So what if she felt all giddy and wanted to reciprocate what he said he felt for her.
No. That was something she couldn't afford. She couldn't very well afford to fall for him. As long as she kept her heart out of the equation, everything would be fine.
Kari pushed herself out the door and she stood right in front of his.
Her hand rested on his door and she wanted to knock, willed herself to.
But she didn't. What if he was just kidding? Then it would be a hell of an embarrassment if she walked in.
And then suddenly a thought came to her. If she was ready to do this. If she was ready to have sex with him, then she'd have to bare herself to him. She'd have to get bare ass naked.
And she wasn't ready yet to see that lust turn into horror when he'd see her naked.
She didn't want it to come between them. She liked what they had right now and she wouldn't be able to bear it if he was completely repulsed by her.
She just couldn't. After all these years, Stan still had a complete hold over her and she had lost.
Withdrawing her hand back she turned her back and took a step towards her room when a swoosh of the door opening had her glancing over her shoulder.
And there he stood in all his naked glory. Or at least she thought he was bare ass under the towel he'd wrapped around his waist. Water beads dripped down his wet hair over his bare, strong hard chest.
"Hey." he exclaimed surprised and she closed her eyes. Shit. This was wrong. All wrong.
She wanted to keep it just physical but she hadn't even known that her heart had already gotten involved. She was falling for him. Hard and fast.
She needed to take a step back. She had to or she'd be in grave danger. She didn't want to lose her heart to him. She had gotten her feelings involved the first time and look where it had gotten her.
She wanted her heart to herself. this time she wouldn't lose it.
Without anther word she walked towards her room, far away from him as she built up all her walls that she'd let down a moment ago.
