Chapter 21 - Sex on Two Legs

Lighter.

Thats what she'd felt the moment she'd told him about Stan. Stan was like the worst nightmare of her life.

She had rebelled against her brother and had gotten married to Stan because she thought she'd been in love.

Was life so unfair that for once that she'd made a mistake to go against her brother's wishes, she had to suffer so bad.

Still after everything that happened, Derek had taken her in when she'd needed him.

He was everything she'd ever ask for in a brother, let alone in her parents.

He was everything to her and that was the only family she thought she'd ever have. Until the Hunts. The Hunt siblings had taken her in. Lexi was like a big mother hen taking care of everybody. But even the mother hen couldn't handle everything.

Now she had to think about Zach too. She was kind of scared that Zach would just fly over and look to it that Stan was no longer a problem.

She knew that guy would martyr himself in saving her and still she'd told him everything about her past.

Well not everything but more than she'd ever told anybody. She had even kept this all from Derek because well,no brother wants to listen to what his sister went through.

She didn't want Derek dead. She was sure Derek would do just about anything to avenge her and Stan wouldn't let the guy live.

She feared the same for Zach.

She was sitting on the empty counter beside where Zach stood cutting bell peppers in small pieces for pasta.

They'd sat there in each other's arms for like forever and then her stomach had let out a loud growl that she was sure even the neighbours heard it.

"Somebody's hungry." He murmured

"Yeah well after the workout I had, I need my strength."

He raised an eyebrow at her.

"You just cleaned the whole stack of pancakes I made for breakfast. You hardly left me any."

"That should tell you how much you worked me out."

He chuckled and she jumped up from his lap.

"C'mon hotstuff. Cook me something delicious."

And that something delicious had to be pasta.

She took a sip from the beer bottle that was placed beside her.

He had a cute frown all the while he'd been cooking.

"Go ahead. Spit it out." She said her finger waffling in the c'mon gesture.

"What?" He asked, startled

" I know you wanna ask me something."

"How d'you-"

"It's not like we just met yesterday. I've come to know a few things about you."

"Really?" he asked, the corner of his lips curling up in a smile.

"Really." she affirmed. "So tell me, what is it?"

"I wonder why you never divorced him once he was caught."

"I went to talk to him but he threatened me. He threatened me that he'd teach me a lesson once he was out. He'd kept shouting until I couldn't help but run out of there. It scared me so I left the town."

"Good thinking."

"That's what I thought. Apparently, I'm very bad at hiding."

"Luckily you got me now."

"Yeah." she murmured.

"You're scared, aren't you?

"Yeah. He's going to find me. I'm sure of it."

Zach dropped the knife down and walked over to her. Pushing between her legs he locked his fingers behind her neck and rested his forehead to hers.

"I'll protect you, luv."

"That's what I don't want. I don't want you to risk your life for me. I know I talked about having a future with you but it's not long before he catches up with me. He won't back down now that he's determined to get back at me."

"You don't know me, Kari. I can protect you. Trust me."

"I do."

With a sigh she pushed back.

The phone that Zach had given to her started to buzz in her pocket. It was Kayla. Kayla was one of the women she'd met once or twice but that was it.

"Hey."

"Hi, Karina"

"Where are you?" Kari asked

"I'm boarding a flight right now. The wedding's in a month, a whole of thirty days but Sydney is relentless. I wonder whose marriage is it, exactly. Tess was all okay with me coming only a week before but Sydney wants me there."

"Oh, you need any help."

Kay didn't speak for one whole minute and when she did her tone was grim,"Yeah, we need to talk."

"About?" she asked, confused.

"Your ex is a big pain in my ass. I got a whole lot of stuff packed but I can't bring any of my guns there. Luckily Calvin has contacts there and he said he'll be ready with a few weapons for me. Never mind. I'll call you once I land."

"Okay.If you want I can send Zach to pick you up."

"Zach? As in Zachary Danvers."

"Yeah."

"Whoa girl. That man is sex on two legs. You dating him."

"Uh huh."

"I thought you were dating Dany."

Kayla smirked."Dany, is it?"

A long moment passed before she said, "I don't care. I thought what with that kiss you shared, you'd be dating."

"Uh, no. He's all yours."

"I-I .... He's ... " she sputtered and the settled on "You're delusional."

"Am I?"

"I'll meet you once I land."

"Sure, sweetie. And i'm sorry for everything. "

"Honey, if that bastard comes within my line of sight, I'll put a bullet between his eyes not before cutting his cock and feeding it to him. You know like Ramsay did. Though I don't think Theon deserved that harsh of a torture, Stan does. God that man can make you feel dirty by just one look."

"Stan deserves that torture and much more, Kay but it's not in our hands."

"Oh yeah, it's not in our hands but if he lays one hand on me, my dad can torture him. Apparently my dad can make the torture in game of thrones look like a child's play what with him being a Marine and all."

"Why would Stan even lay a finger on you?"

"That's what we gotta talk about it."

"Okay. Take care Kay."

"Don't worry about me, Kari. I'm fine. You worry about yourself and then sex on legs. If I were you I wouldn't let him get outta my bed."

"Oh honey trust me, I don't intend to either."

With a chuckle Kay hung up the phone and after that no matter what, all Kari could think about was how dangerous had Stan gotten and how close was he to knowing where she was.
