A Billionaire in Shining Suit (TBB 4)

Prologue

KARINA HART

Karina Hart looked up at the sky as the fireworks exploded. A smile broke out on her face as she watched the colours against the black night sky. 

 "It's beautiful, isn't it?" She smiled at the familiar voice. 

"Yes it is" she said as she turned to Daniel. 

 "Would you like to accompany me inside?"

 She smiled as she placed a hand on his chest, went on her toes and leaned forward until she was so close that only he could hear what she said. And so that it seemed s if they were intimate.

"We both know which woman you want, Dan. And don't worry, she's glaring daggers at me right now. I'm loving this so I'm gonna take it one step further. You'll thank me later." she said. she pulled back a little and kissed him. 

 Daniel caught her by the waist and she let him go in a second. 

"You minx" he whispered and she just laughed as she escaped his hold and walked in. 

 They were at the resort and Dave had told her to send invitations to the whole family. By the time it was nine everybody was out in the back where usually people could sit in the open and dine. 

 Sean and Syd had cleared the ground and set up a a long dining table. 

 Everybody was seated and suddenly Dave stood up. The guy cleared his throat and everybody fell silent. 

 "This year has been a great year for me and for my brothers. I've called everybody here to announce that my lovely girlfriend said yes to my proposal and we'll be getting married somtime in October this year. " 

A loud whoop resounded as few whistled and everybody clapped. Karina was ecstatic that her boss was finally settling down and she couldn't help but bound towards Tess and encase her in a bear hug. 

 "We have another announcement" he said clanking his spoon on his glass softly. He gestured towards Logan and sat down. 

 Logan stood up holding his glass up. "I'm happy to say that Sean and Syd have finally settled their differences and are happy together. I'm sorry for your loss though sweet." Logan nooded towards Syd and she smiled as she mouthed a thank you. 

 "I'm also happy to see my brothers back together" 

 Lexi suddenly screamed, "Arghh, stop stalling and tell them I'm pregnant already." 

 The whole table went silent and Lexi's eyes widened. "I'm gonna blame that outburst on hormones." 

Laughter burst throughout the table as Cassandra was out of the chair in record time and was hugging the life out of Lexi. "I'm going to be a grandmother" she shouted ecstatically

 Kari was overwhelmed. She didn't know why she felt suffocated. 

 "Are you alright?" she heard a gruff voice say. She turned around to see the guy she had developed a small crush on. She had seen him occasionally in he hospital in his impeccable suit, his dirty blonde hair slicked back and that dimple on his left cheek that appeared everytime he smiled. Today he wore a hat and looked just a little boyish with that cheeky smile of his.

"Mr Danvers." she acknowledged and shook her head, "I'm fine. It's just..."

"Suffocating." he supplied and she smiled. "Yeah"

 "Walk with me?" he asked offering his arm. 

 Kari blushed as she took his arm and tried to defuse the tension "Ah, a gentleman"

"Through and through, m'lady" he answered.

 They took the pathway to the huge open ground where Logan and Lexi had got married. 

 Suddenly her phone buzzed. Kari chose to ignore it but Zachary insisted. "It might be important you know"

She just shrugged knowing it was probably her brother who wanted to know where she was. 

 "Its just a text."

"Then you might as well check it" he said in that Australian accent that made her swoon. 

 "Fine" she said, over exaggerating her exasperation. 

The moment she saw the text on her screen her knees buckled. Zachary caught her before she went down. 

"What is it?"

She clawed at her neck trying to breathe. 

"Breath Kari. Breath." he said as he ran his hand in circles on her back. 

 "I-I .." she took a deep breath as she looked into his worried hazel eyes. 

"Help me. Please. Take me somewhere."

"Where?" he asked softly. 

"Far away from here."
