Chapter 1
Casey didn’t know waking up that dewy and sunny Monday morning that it would be one the worst and best weeks of her life. She rolled out of her lime green comforter groaning as she hit the off button on her unnecessary loud alarm. As she hopped into the shower she felt her eyelids slip closed again until the rush of pure cold water poured onto her head and she screamed “AAHHHH, WHAT IN THE HELL?!” She shut the water off as fast as she could and she climbed out of the shower and wrapped a towel around her and went into her living room. She frantically picked up her phone and called her apartment manager and told him about her cold water situation. He began to tell her that everyone was notified as of 6am that morning that the hot water would be off for four days because of maintenance to the building. She said, “Henry, I didn’t get any notice’. He told her that everyone got a paper notice on their doors; she said that it was ridiculous to put paper notices up at 6am when more than half of the building wouldn’t see them until after they left for work. He said that he was sorry but they were notified and he hung up.
Casey was steaming mad. She slammed the phone down and got dressed and climber into her car and headed over to her friend Brandi’s house. Brandi would be home because she was on vacation this week. She pulled in the driveway and started to walk up to the door. She knocked and Brandi opened the door. “Hey, what’s up I thought you had to work today?” Casey looked at her and said, “I do but my dumbass building manager doesn’t know how to run anything and I ended up climbing into a completely cold shower this morning.” Casey told her the story and Brandi shook her head in a disgusted manner. “Well you can get a shower here or even stay here for the next week if you want.” Casey agreed that it would probably for the best because she would just end up going home after work and being pissed off and aggravated the whole time anyway.
After she got a shower and hopped quickly into her car and hauled her butt to work in a frenzy Casey ran into the person that she hated the most at work as she made a quick sprint to the front door. Lauren was the stuck up bitch that would do or say anything to throw anyone under the bus just for self-gain. She and Casey have been in an almost silent war for about two years now. Lauren had told their boss that Casey has not been finishing her big projects on time right before they were due. Of course they were all finished on time and she almost made it to Mr. Gotlieb before Lauren had one day last month but she was just two minutes too late. There was no valid reason for the hatred that Lauren carried for Casey other than that Casey was better at her job and she did whatever she could to make Casey look incompetent so that by the end of this year it would be her that got the partnership promotion instead of Casey. Casey knew all of this because she and Lauren had gotten along for the first month she was there but then after that month she noticed Lauren stopped talking to her. The reason she never went and so called snitched on Lauren is because she felt like that was an easy way plus Mr. Gotlieb may not believe her and she would be out of the promotion for good.
