Chapter 2
As Lauren walked passed her she saw a slight sneer on her face. Oh great, this is not going to be good. Casey went through the first ten hours with no bumps in the road so to speak. The next two hours were crazy because Lauren “accidently” forgot to let Casey know at the end of the day they were supposed to have a presentation to present to the whole entire Board of Directors of what the promotion means to them and what they will bring to the table. Casey was finishing the latest project that Mr. Gotlieb had given to her and she was now scrambling to get her presentation together. She tried to be as efficient as she could be but she knew it was not her best work. She just finished as the boss came up and said we needed to begin soon. She headed to the board room and prepared for the worst case scenario. Lauren was first and of course she dazzled everyone in the room with everything she said even though Casey could see right through her. Lauren only wanted the partnership so that she could get her wealthy father to buy the other partners’ halves so that she and her father could own and take over the whole business. She had heard Lauren on the phone one day while walking past her desk bragging that she was going to turn the whole law firm into a huge success. She said that it was a crappy little practice and that only her and her father could change it and she had spilled her guts to one of her ditsy friends that she and her father got her a “job” there so that she could wait for the right time to crush and buy out the other partners’ because none of them would ever sell their half and still considered one of the best law firms in the state. Casey had no actual proof so it wasn’t like she could just tell anyone without any hard evidence so she chose to keep quiet and try as hard as she could to win the partnership herself. She knew deep down that it wouldn’t stop Lauren and her father from trying to buy out the firm but it would make it a little less easy as long as Lauren was just another employee.
Casey was to present next. She stood up from her chair and went for it. She explained all of her strong points and told everyone how much it meant to her to make partner. She went on to state how she would improve the company and get them new and more clients. She made a few more strong points and wrapped up her presentation and sat back down. Mr. Gotlieb told them that they could leave for the day and he thanked them for their presentations and that they would know at the end of the week that would make partner.
As Casey left the building she didn’t see Lauren on her way out. She sighed with relief as she left the parking lot and was back at her apartment to grab everything she would need for the next week at Brandi’s. Finally she made it back to Brandi’s house and she walked in and smelled dinner already. She walked into the kitchen and saw Brandi standing by the counter chopping up onions and peppers. “Yum that smells really good” Casey said. “I know. I’m making Italian sausage and penne with butter and herbs.” Ever since she had moved into a place of her own Brandi had brushed up on her cooking skills. She was by no means ever a bad cook but she wasn’t a chef. Casey helped finish dinner and they ate and talked about how it went for Casey at work. Casey let her know all the details and Brandi couldn’t believe her ears she knew that Lauren was no good Casey had told her from day one that there was something off about her. After dinner they both cleaned up and Brandi washed as Casey dried the dishes. Brandi said she would finish up in the kitchen if Casey wanted to go shower and rest.
Later on after Casey showered she went downstairs to watch a little TV before going to bed. She was watching “Golden Girls” as Brandi called her name and asked her to come into the computer room. Casey trudged into the room and just made a little noise as if to say “what do you want?” Brandi looked at her and said “I bought these the other day and they came in the mail today and they are for tomorrow so you are going to have to call into work and tell them you can’t come in.” Casey looked confused and looked down at Brandi’s hand and saw tickets. She said “what’s this?” Brandi said “look for your-self” and handed them to her. Casey read the tickets and couldn’t believe her eyes as they widened and she screamed “OH MY GOD, NO EFFING WAY!!!”
