His name was Toryn. It was an odd name, but the second I heard it, I knew that it couldn't belong to anyone else. It was as much a part of him as his strange blue eyes.
It didn't take long to figure out their names. With just a few questions for Ronnie, I was now aware who each member of the pack was. The Alpha, Toryn James, was eighteen, a senior at our little Californian highschool. His Beta's name was Oliver Scanton, also a senior. His brother, Ren, with the unfathomable brown eyes, was just a year younger, in my grade. With further questioning, nobody has seen or heard of their parents. The humans saw them as a quiet group, but their instincts kept them at bay. They knew better than to mess with that crowd.
They didn't eat lunch at the school, and they mingled with few humans. They drove nice cars, and wore dark clothes. They didn't look gothic, just dark and mysterious. The kind of people that would immediately spark my curiousity.
With Toryn's last threat weighing on my mind, I didn't bother them for the following week. It was incredibley difficult. Between the restless dreams of Toryn, and the tense space between us, it was nearly impossible to keep my mind from him. He angered me. I had better things to worry about. It was very likely with the amount of attacks in the last year, and their growing ability to track us, that the hunters would return and Igi and I would be running...again.
I was so tired of running. I felt like a coward...and I had a little theory...maybe if our packs joined then we would have a chance, and we'd be able to stand up to those bastards! Toryn's cold attitude and always present threat made the chances of this idea one in a million. Even he had demanded I leave, a demand that I had yet to understand the motive for.
I was determined to find out what his problem with me was. I may not be able to take on an army of hunters, but maybe I could risk a confrontation with one arrogant Alpha. Milo would be against it, as would Igi. They were too protective. They nearly threatened to kill me themselves after I had been threatened by Toryn in the woods.
Yes he had left me scared, but he had also left me annoyed. We were fellow werewolves. Shouldn't we be helping each other out? Trying to protect our race?
The following Monday was a gloomy one. The skies were dark, turning the world into numerous shades of gray. Occasionally the clouds would growl, a low rumble that shook the ground. I could smell it in the air. The storms roll in any moment, but for some reason the rain held up, locked inside those towering fluffy walls. A mild mist escaped...but nothing more.
I walked with my hands shoved in my jacket pockets, my face tucked beneath my hood. Milo and Igi were in an unusually weary mood, like me. They made no jokes, our carefree banter had vanished. I noticed that we weren't the only wolves who felt under the weather. Ren and Oliver looked unusually pale, their aggressive aura's subsiding. I hadn't yet seen Toryn and glanced quickly around the school grounds.
It must be a new moon tonight. I notice that's when I feel the most weak, my strength coming closer to human standards. I didn't enjoy this particular part of the month. I reveled in full moons. It felt like the moonlight could energize me as it sunk into my fur. I sighed and walked to my homeroom.
The day passed on and still there was no sign of Toryn. I grew restless.
I sat at my desk, my chin propped up on my hand. The bell would ring in twenty minutes, and then I would be heading home. Igi, where do you think Toryn's gone? I asked warily. It took her a moment to reply. I don't know.
Ren and Oliver were in Milo's last hour. Got any ideas? I asked him but something was wrong. When I scanned his mind, he wasn't in his classroom. He was in the hallway and his emotions were quick and aware. Milo, are you okay? I asked anxiously. Although I couldn't see what he was seeing, by the line of his thoughts, I could tell he was following someone.
