The day passed on agonizingly slow, leaving me tense after that second encounter with the black wolf. His wolf form had been impressive, but his dark mysterious human form left tingles running up my spine. I was beyond curious about him and had so many questions. Did he have a pack of his own? Did he know of more werewolves? Did he know about the hunters? But I kept my mouth clamped shut and resisted the urge to run and find him. There was a magnetic pull between us, and it left me annoyed and slightly scared. I wondered if it was just me or if Igi and Milo felt it too, but I refrained from asking them. Not until I had more information on this wolf.
However, what really had me constantly glancing over my shoulder, was the powerful darkening of his eyes when they met mine. It had looked like the stirring of desire in their aqua pools. I shivered. His entire presence screamed danger. I would be cautious when I approached him. I had yet to find the courage to do it, and fate was kind. I didn't see him in any of my next classes, or at lunch, where I spent the majority of my time glaring at my food and relaying everything that happened to Milo and Igi. They joked with Amelia and Ronnie, but I kept silent, unable to keep up with the silly teenage facade.
My classes after lunch passed, and still there was no sign of him. I could feel him, through the walls, his burning scent filling my nose, along with a few others. Igi and Milo felt confident there were more wolves than just this Alpha. They hadn't seen any though...but we knew better than to doubt. I could hear their heartbeats, strong and male. They left me scowling.
The bell rang, and I headed for my last class alone. It was the only other class aside from my first hour that I had without Igi and Milo. I sat down at a desk and watched the class fill. I had a strange premonition he would be joining me in this class. I waited and found that Amelia and Ronnie didn't have this class either. I took deep breaths to prepare myself. I would be all alone.
You're not all alone, Milo reassured me, scanning my thoughts. I sighed and pinched the bridge of my nose between my fingers. Milo, there is something different about him...I didn't feel this way when I met you and- I stopped mid-thought as I heard him approaching, followed by two more werewolves.
I lifted my head and watched him walk through the doorway. The two others behind him were unmistakable. They were definantly werewolves. They had dark hair and clothes like him. They didn't look nearly as powerful, but they looked like warriors, strong and beautiful, their skin unmarred and their eyes bright. I ran my eyes over their human forms, assessing their differences.
One was taller, and slightly more built than the Alpha. His hair was shorter than the others and his face was angled a bit differently. His hair was dark brown, and his eyes were a watchful sapphire. The other one was much more similar to the Alpha. He was about the same height as the Alpha, but like the tall one, his hair was shorter. His hair was nearly as dark as the Alpha's but his eyes were a less intense brown. They were clearly related, maybe cousins, or brothers. You could see it in the little things, like the shape of their lips or the straight line of their noses.
It was more than obvious that these wolves all belonged in the Alpha's pack...and I sat in my chair at the other side of the room, without the comforting strength of mine.
I couldn't find it in myself to meet his eyes, not when I was struggling with his scent, his real scent, and not the burning, that assaulted my senses. He smelled clean, like the atmosphere right before a storm, like a cool creek running down a mountain. It was laced with the powerful tint of an Alpha, and something...like anger rolled off of him in waves. I frowned and glanced up.
I was right. His cool blue gaze glared at me, furious. My hands began to involuntarily shake and I hid them beneath the desk. I wanted to growl at my own fear and his stupid intensity. Why the hell should be angry with me? It didn't make any sense and I threw him a dark scowl, which his brother or cousin caught and they smirked.
I turned away, determined that if he was going to act like this for the rest of the evening, then I wouldn't give him the satisfaction of seeing me quiver in response. I would show him that he doesn't have any affect on me. I ignored him, content on looking out the window until the teacher arrived.
Milo and Igi also began shouting in my head, telling me to leave, telling me to be careful. It was all too much. I eventually had to block them out.
I couldn't concentrate on what the teacher was saying. Not when I felt their heated gazes on my skin. I sat twitching at me desk, torn between glancing at him out of sheer curiousity, and ignorning him for my own safety. Now that we were in closer proximity I felt confident that the magnetic pull between us was something that only we shared. Igi or Milo would have said something by now if they had also felt it. It was overpowering and I struggled to stay in my seat and not bolt out of the room.
The hour dragged on. It was probably the longest hour of my life, but it did eventually end. The bell rang and I jumped to my feet in relief, moving through the throng of students and away from this confusing and infuriating wolf.
I scanned the hall, and found a pair of double doors that led outside. I pushed them open and stumbled into the gentle summer air. These doors opened up onto the back of the school and I suddenly realized my mistake. I could hear him following me. I leapt into the forest wall that the school was backed up against, just as I heard him swing open the door. I guess he was making my decision for me then. Now was the time that I was going to confront him.
I waited for him to reach me in the forest. He stopped a mere twenty feet away, his dark black hair lifting in the soft breeze, blowing his scent my way. The burning was beginning to fade, and his true clean scent began to take over when it was just us...alone.
He continued to glare at me, but I kept my face emotionless, waiting for him to say something. He sighed, and it almost sounded like a growl.
"You have to leave" he told me. His voice wrapped around me, like a warm blanket in the middle of winter. It was beautiful, and I could hear the strong Alpha command in the gentle timbre. It took me a moment to realize what he said and then I gaped.
"I can't leave. This is my home as much as it is yours" I replied, pleased that my voice didn't quiver.
He closed his eyes and shook his head slowly. "You don't understand. If you don't leave then I am going to have to kill you" he murmured. He wasn't shouting or growling, but his gentle voice seemed to make the threat even more real. I scowled.
"What makes you think you can?" I scoffed. I liked to believe in my strength and courage. It was possible with my years of experience that I could take him on.
A small darkly amused smile lifted the corners of his lips. "True you will be the first Luna that I've fought, but personally I don't see the difference between you and all the other wolves I've had to kill" he replied. A low growl rumbled up my throat. He was bluffing. He had to be. But the truth that rang in his voice was clear as sunlight.
"Tell me something" I hissed. "If you want to kill me so badly...then why did you save me?"
His smirk was gone, replaced by an intensity that left my knees trembling. My words had obviously angered him further. "Listen little girl" he growled. "Those humans that I protected you from, aren't the only things out there that would do harm to you or your precious pack." His words were a mocking hymn and with that he turned around and walked back towards the school.
I stood there gasping and shaky, my strong and confident composure slipping from my grasp. If he was right and humans weren't the only things that wanted to attack me...then who else should I be running from?
