Lightening crashed, and the rainy wind blew the fresh scent of pine and crisp water into my face, lifting my white fur. The three of us stood in zealous anticipation, listening to the loading of guns, and the murmured orders as they tromped towards us. I counted the racing human heart beats. There seemed to be thirty-two of them. I could usually only take on five at the most. Maybe twelve with Milo at my side, but with the strength of an Alpha, could we take on this entire group of hunters?

If I had been human, I would have missed the first round of whistling bullets that were masked by the next explosion of lightening. I ducked and the bullets flew over my head, some darts, some real caps, and they lodged themselves in the rough trunks of the pine trees. Another round flew at my legs, but I jumped back and they were buried in the ground, causing small eruptions of dark dirt to fly.

I glanced at Milo and Toryn to see if they had been hit, but they were already rushing forward, growling in unision. They dodged the following bullets aimed at their faces, the tender space between their eyes. They swirved through trees, using them as cover to get closer to the hunters. I surged forward, the familiar fury that those bastards caused to swell within me was returning.

I watched Toryn make the first move. He was agile and stealthy. The hunters couldn't get a clear shot of him, let alone lay a hand on him before he wrapped his jaws around the first neck. He was just a dark blur, and I grinned in admiration. I remembered when he had saved me that night. I hadn't seen him coming, and he had taken on all those hunters while I'd escaped. He may be infuriating and arrogant but I had give him credit for his incredible fighting.

As Toryn was getting ready to take on another, I saw one of the hunters take aim and rushed forward, but Milo had crushed his skull in one swift blow. I lunged for another human, weilding a dangerous loaded gun, but he was dead before he could even pull the trigger. One by one the humans fell, and I felt dazed. Their cries of pain and enraged curses blurred together. I hoped that they could now understand the suffering they had put us through. All the times they'd harmed Igi, all the times they had nearly taken my life.

Sometime later, in the midst of all the chaos, I heard Oliver approaching at a furious pace. Toryn's Beta joined into our fight without a pause. He didn't even acknowledge Milo and I. With only eight left, unwounded and alive, they realized that they were losing and began to retreat. I yelped in barely suppressed glee. We had won this fight! And with the help of Toryn and his pack, I believed we could win many more! Ren and Igi being mates was probably the best accident that could happen. With our two packs, we wouldn't have to run. We could fight, and survive.

Milo gave a low wolfy chuckle at my reaction and I even believed that Toryn might be grinning. Oliver panted, and gazed at the retreating men, as they retrieved the lifeless and wounded bodies, obviously satisfied. Our fur was ruffled, covered in human blood, and a few cuts on Toryn because he had faced a human with a knife, but we were alive and we were victorious. I was so proud, that I almost missed the couple of pops that fired in our direction. Two bullets, came at Milo.

No! Milo watch out! I screamed, but as he whirled around I shot forward, putting my body between his and the solid metal that would surely cause agony. No, I cared about Milo too much to let my bestfriend get hurt! I didn't think I'd be able to cover him in time, but my legs sprung forward, confident that I could save him.

The force of the bullets hitting my side, had me rolling to the ground in and sliding to a stop in an agonzied heap. Some say that the piercing of the bullets couldn't be felt for the first couple moments, but I felt it immediately. It was intense, this burning pain. It made my body feel heavier than ever before. Lavine! Milo shouted and rushed over to me. I was surprised to hear a feeble whine escape Toryn as he watched me.
