My eyelids fluttered open, putting an end to the darkness. I stared at the ceiling of my room, noticing cracks in the dry wall as I tried to remember how I had lost conciousness. It all came flooding back to me.
The hunters, Toryn's determination to fight, our victory, getting hit by the bullets, and finally fainting from lack of energy and the intense pain. My hand flew to my stomache, searching for the pain and the bullet wounds. I was definantly sore, but the holes were gone...as was the agony.
I scanned the room, but it was empty. I glanced down at my clothed body, and wondered with slightly flaming cheeks how I'd become dressed, and my wounds bandaged. I jumped up. I fisted my hands and bent my limbs, but no other damage had been done. I felt physically indistructable and wondered where all this newfound strength had come from. However, emotionally I felt drained and weak. Toryn's face flashed across my mind. I had to talk to him. Immediately.
I skidded down the hallway to find Milo in the kitchen, his head in the fridge. That dork. He laughed. Good morning to you too, he responded without turning around. I scowled. "Where the hell is Igi?" I demanded. He sighed at my aggressive voice.
"She's been with Ren all morning" he replied casually. As if Igi spending her time with Toryn's brother was natural. I narrowed my eyes, and Milo turned around to look at me, feeling the tense shift in my presence. He raised an eyebrow. "Are you feeling okay?" He asked gently, his green eyes probing my face, but I remained closed off. Toryn's face came to mind again.
"I'm going to talk to Toryn" I told him flatly. Milo gave me a long thoughtful look. "Did you ever think about getting dressed before you go see him?" he chuckled. I looked down a my meek nightclothes, gasped, and stormed out of the room, his laugh following me all the way to my room.
It didn't take me long to find Toryn's home. Nestled back deep in a forest, his house was huge. I had no doubt it belonged to his parents, though they'd never been heard of or seen. I approached his porch, growing wary. I was on his pack's land, they had a right to take me out if need be for tresspassing on his territory. I swallowed. I didn't know what kind of terms we were on yet. The thought of Toryn's strong face, urged me forward. My wolf had been whimpering all the way here. She couldn't be satisfied until she saw him, for a reason I could not understand. As far as I knew he saw me as nothing more than a nuissance, and a potential ally when it came to the hunters. I shook myself and rang his doorbell. Why should I care what he thought about me?
I could sense Igi in the distance. She was close, perhaps a mile or two away, on a run with Ren. I heard his familiar footsteps behind his front door. His heartbeat music in my ears. He opened the door, already knowing it was me. His blue eyes were bright. His clothes and mid-night black hair looked slightly dishevled like he had been sleeping, making me imagine what he looked like asleep. He looked me up and down with a bored expression. I stood stiff as a wall.
"Lavine?" he murmured, sounding the least bit surprised to find me on his door step. "I need to talk to you" I told him with an unwavering voice. This was no social call. He rubbed his eyes sleepily, making him look innocent and so very much younger. I tried not to gawk. "I expected as much" he yawned, coming out onto the porch and closing the door behind him.
"Let's walk" he told me, tromping down the steps. I stiffened and followed him. The forest was glowing with sunlight and he walked down his long gravel driveway, his hands shoved in his pockets. He was silent for a long time, waiting for me to ask. I followed him, keeping my eyes trained on his back, growing nervous. It was an embarrasing idea for me to ask about my own kind.
I finally found my voice. "I-I want to know everything" I whispered. He peeked at me, a cocky smirk on his face. "You'll have to be more specific" he muttered. "I want to know about werewolves" I said through my teeth, growing angry. "Now that's a broad subject" he noted. I growled. He was toying with me. I reached forward, and gripped his arm, my fingers meeting the soft warm skin. He froze and looked at my hand, resting on his arm.
"Listen to me" I hissed. "I want to know why I feel like this" I breathed. "I want to know why you are all I can think about" I added darkly. He slowly turned around and met my eyes. They were so strange. Alive and quick, as if a hunter could come bursting through the trees any moment. Everything seemed to fade. The birds chirping, the wind whistling through the boughs overhead. My pack, my inhibitions. Gone.
He rushed forward. I don't know what I expected, maybe for him to attack but never did I think he would capture my pale face in his hands, and bring his lips crashing down on mine. "Toryn" I gasped, but it wasn't in shock, rather, my entire body filled with a passion that raged like a wildfire. I couldn't control it. My hands wound around his neck of their own accord, and I became breathless with the sensation. I had never felt anything like this before. This kiss was powerful, all the emotions we've built up in our lives suddenly boiling over. Pain, hatred, happiness, fear...love.
Before I could burst, he pulled away as suddenly as he had kissed me. He slipped out of my reach, a panicked expression on his face. He was horrified and his response left me trembling. I felt like I might collapse. He looked ready to turn and run, but I lifted a small hand.
"Stop!" I shouted. It was hard to be firm, I was glowing inside. "Don't leave. You've been trying to avoid me the whole time I've known you, you can't run from me now" I told him, unwavering. "You got what you wanted," I assured him. "But I-" he began to make an excuse, but I cut him off. "Now I deserve some answers."
He walked over to the closest tree, and leaned against the trunk weakily, whether in defeat or relief I will never know. "Where should I start?" his voice was grave. I strode right up to him, and looked into his hard blue gaze.
"At the beginning."
