Chapter 2
The bright, hot sun rays entered through my window directly into my eyes signaling me to wake up again for another day of school. Thank goodness it's Friday and it's only a half day of school. I got up and showered like usually and when finished pulled my hair into a messy bun the top of my head. I slipped on some white skinny jeans and gray gladiators and when walked to get a shirt, I noticed a mark on my lower left hip. Detailed swirls and circles laced my back...and up my side? I rubbed it, thinking maybe it was a marker, but it was real. Like a tattoo. I started panicking, what's wrong with this? My increased anger, strength, and now this? What the hell is this?
I didn't want to tell mom, maybe something is wrong with me, like I'm abnormal freak. I picked a sheer, sea-foam green top and slipped it on, grabbed my backpack and car keys and left for school without saying goodbye to my mom. At school, I sat straight through and when we were released I headed straight to the library, maybe it would have something. Our librarian, Mr. Waltz, sat at his desk reading the newspaper when I came up to him. He saw my nervousness and removed his glasses and sat up.
"Are you okay?"
"Yes, I'm fine." I bit my lip. "I'm wondering if you have books on symbols?"
"Like punctuations?"
"More like tribal symbols."
"Um... I think we have some in the back." He left to a bag room behind the desk and came back with two, large, dusty books with various indistinguishable markings and I looked confused.
"Can I check these out?"
"You're not supposed to-"
"Please you don't know how much you helping me if you do."
"Fine, but I need them back by next week in the same condition."
"Okay," I wrapped the books in my hands. "Thanks very much."
"You're welcome."
At my car, I slid the books in the passenger seat and headed to PowPows, a local coffee shop my brother Mitch's mate co-owns with her sisters. On my way over, red and blue lights with an alarming siren stopped me. I pulled over. Great, what did I do now? I got out my license and registration.
I rolled up my window and slid on my sunglasses as the sun reflected from other parked cars around me. I waited and a police office stepped to my window tapping it with his knuckle. I sighed and rolled it down and he was smiled at me.
I groaned and threw my registration back into my glove box and my license in my bag. I slapped him hard the chest and growled.
"Whoa there," Greg laughed. "Just checking up on you."
"You scared me." I snapped.
"Relax," He said. "Are you PMSing again?"
"You wish," I snapped. "Just leave me alone okay? I've go important things to do."
"What's so important that you can't say hi to your older brother?" he looked at the books. "What are those?"
"Nothing," I answered quickly. " I have to go."
"Wait a second," He said but I already pulled off at headed to PowPows and I almost ran over his feet. He waved his arms frantically and I raced over to PowPows.
Inside Messika was waiting a table and when she saw me and smiled, but she soon frowned when she saw me in distress. I went to the counter and asked Lily, Messika's sister, for a large tea with extra cream and extra sugar and two chocolate chip cookies. Messika came up to me and touch my shoulder. My stomach run nervously and I felt queasy.
