"Link? What are doing up there? My father's been looking for you all over the village. He had me worried that something happened to you," Amber stood under an oak tree located right on the edge of the goat fields. Her arms were crossed while she waited for an answer from her friend who sat up on one of the branches, his back to the tree's trunk.
He flinched when she called," taking a break."
"A break? What from?"
"..."
The redhead frowned when no answer came. She carefully climbing up the tree to where Link sat, finding a spot on a branch opposite to him," if you're hiding from the village children, they're all most likely home having lunch. You might be able to make a run for it back to your house and lock all the doors. That's what I do at least."
"I'm not hiding from the children," Link hugged his knees to his chest, his eyes cased out into the fields.
"Then who?"
"I'm trying to hide from your father."
Amber blinked, shaking her head," my father? Why are you hiding from him?"
"He keeps asking me to help him with different things around the village."
"He's been doing that for awhile now, hasn't he? You never seemed upset about it then."
Link went quiet, not saying a word. Amber sighed," we've been friends since before we could even walk, Link. I know for a fact there's something else on your mind. Come on, out with it."
The boy said nothing at first before swinging his legs over the branch to where he could face Amber while muttering,"...your father asked if I wanted to be mayor after him..."
It was now Amber's turn to be silent. Her honey eyes were glued to Link, her mouth opening an closing, however, no words came out. Finally, she manged to speak, her own voice quiet," what did you say to him?"
"I asked 'why me?' He started going on and on about how I'd be the perfect one to be mayor. He didn't let me ask or say anything else. He only walked off with a smile, saying he had something to do, but he'd come back for an answer later," Link explained, his voice a hush.
"So, that's why he's been looking for you...What are you going to tell him?"
"I don't really think mayor is the job for me, Amber. It would be cool and all, b-but I..." He trailed off.
"Then you should go tell my father that, after all, you can't simply avoid him all of your life," Amber pointed out. Link shook his head.
"He'll ask for a reason why. You know him."
"So? Give him your reason. It can't be that hard."
"...He won't like it..."
Amber raised an eyebrow," how do you know? What's your reason?"
Link kept quiet. He bit his lower lip, shaking his head instead.
Amber huffed," Link..."
"..."
"Link!"
He whispered something under his breath, something Amber was unable to hear," you have to speak up. I can't hear you."
"I said I'm planning on leaving," Link lowered his head, his bangs covering his eyes that way he wouldn't have to see his friend's reaction.
Amber raised an eyebrow, laughing awkwardly," you're going to leave all because my father asked you to be mayor? Don't be such a baby about things, Link. Tell my father how you feel and he'll leave you alone about it, I promise. No need to make jokes like that-"
