Riley's POV

I was clearing my head at my signature spot. I was sitting on a rock that was located on the running trail. The only thing on my mind currently was Lucky. I tried to forget about her, but it seemed impossible to do so.

To prove my point, not long after I arrived at my spot. Lucky came from behind me. I turned to see her just staring at me. I jumped down from my rock, and got as close to her as I could.

I examined her up and down. Her wolf was beautiful. Her black fur looked well groomed. And, her golden eyes were as bright as the sun.

"So what, you're a poet now?" My wolf growled. "Just the other night, you were saying how it was best we didn't get involved with her."

"Well now I changed my mind, asshole."

I suppose Lucky was examining me as well. The wind had blew against my brown fur, and Lucky's eyes followed they way my fur moved.

We stayed like that, looking at each other. Our snouts were inches apart. I was so close to just pouncing on her and doing her there and then. I was prevented from doing so when a howl that I knew belonged to my brother, filled the air.

He was calling for me, and me alone, although I wasn't sure why. I gave Lucky one last look before I ran off to find Calvin. He was standing by a large oak tree back on campus.

"What do you want?" I asked.

"Dad knows."

I blinked. "Two word sentences aren't gonna get you anywhere. Let's try this again... What do you want?"

Calvin sighed. "Dad knows that you and Lucky are mates."

"How the hell did he find out?"

"I uh, I kind of told him?" My brother lowered his head.

"Are you some sort of idiot?" I snarled in his face. "Damn it, do you know what kind of hell he's gonna put me through now!?"

"I know, I know, but I didn't go up to him and tell him. I passed by Lucky the other day, and i automatically thought about how she rejected you. I forgot to close the link between Dad and I, so when I last saw him, he basically forced it out of me."

I laid down on my stomach. "My life is over."

Calvin laid down next to me. "No its not. Look, I suspect Dad's gonna use your feelings for Lucky to his advantage. I know you also want to get back in the pack, but you can't have both Lucky and the pack."

"What are you getting at?" I growled.

"Riley, I'm your brother. It's kind of my job to protect you when you're hurt."

"I don't need you babying me, Calvin."

"I'm just saying... Whether you choose the pack, or if you choose to protect Lucky, I'll support your decision no matter what."

I looked at my brother. Calvin had always been at my side no matter what the situation was. He was always defending me, and I was lucky to have a brother like him.

"Well," I finally breathed, "I think I know what I want."

(Three weeks later)

I was relaxing in the middle of campus under a tree. My limbs were throbbing. I had just returned from a training session, and I didn't even bother to switch out from my wolf form afterwards.

I was half asleep, but became wide awake once I spotted one of my roommates walking towards me. It was Lucky, and her girlfriend was nowhere in sight.
