"I know, baby, I know. I promise I won't let her or anyone else hurt you anymore..." Peter looked at Leslie, hugging her dear wife. The family was everything to him.
Peter was full of rage and understood he had to protect his family now. If Rachel didn't decide to leave the country, she may search for connection with Peter.
Twelve days were passed since Jim was found. Peter had a full rest at that night at home. He really felt he wasn't that tired anymore like before. Enjoyed sleeping next to her beautiful wife. Sarah and little still slept when Peter woke up at 8 am. As Sarah had suffered so much because of Jim and Peter, the man let her continue to sleep. Peter opened his eyes already at 7 am but watched the beautiful sunrise from the window in their bed.
He only had a chance to turn the coffee machine on when he heard Leslie's crying.
"I'll do it!" Peter said and rushed to the bedroom and picked the little Leslie up. Sarah had opened her eyes, he saw. He shushed the baby and took him to the wrapping table.
"Wow, my boy. There's a lot..." Peter laughed, changing the baby's diaper.
"You haven't done this for a long time, Peter," Sarah said, still laying on the bed.
"I know, I'm sorry," Peter answered. "You know... Jim,".
"I do. But don't forget us, okay?" Sarah said.
Peter took the baby up from the table and placed him next to Sarah. Leslie started to play with his mommy's hair.
"I really enjoy that kind of mornings," Peter sat on the edge of their bed. "But I have to go to the hospital today,".
"We are coming with you," Sarah looked up to Peter. "You are always gone. I want Leslie also to see his brother,".
"I'm sorry. Of course, you can come with me. There is always so much work," Peter nodded.
"First," Sarah smiled. "We are drinking coffee and eat breakfast. And then we are going to the hospital,". Peter kissed her wife on the lips and raised up to prepare the breakfast.
In 2-3 hours, the family was ready to leave the hospital. Sarah took the Leslie and Peter locked the door behind them.
As they arrived at the hospital, they saw the doctor Hernandez, a nurse, and their little Jim.
"What are you doing here?" Peter asked the doctor.
"Today we are discovering the world," Doctor answered. "Hello, visiting Jim?".
"We are. Today, Peter took us with him," Sarah said, looking at the doctor. Peter helped Sarah to take out Leslie's stroller. Put Leslie into it and moved the stroller to the doctor and others.
"How are you?" Peter asked, shaking the doctor's hand.
"We are doi... Well, I need to talk to you all," doctor answered. He asked the nurse to take Jim in a wheelchair for a walk.
"There's something going on with Jim,".
"What do you mean? Did something happen?" Sarah asked.
"Not exactly. We are guessing Jim's psyche isn't what it is supposed to be," Doctor explained.
"What are you saying?" Peter asked, confused. Putting his hands on the chest, in crossed position.
"If Jim gets out of the hospital... In a wheelchair, as you know. That's a clear point. But there is more. He isn't that same child at home as your another one, when he gets older. Seeing the world is like a miracle for him to see. The brain is really damaged. It can end with the real, awful complications," Doctor continued.
"He is a normal child, doctor. Jim understand every kind of question you ask from him," Peter answered.
"Because we are keeping the questions short and strict. We have tried to learn numbers but he doesn't get them. Not talking about the puzzles,".
"So what does it mean then? We are accepting him as a normal child. As our beautiful son we got on the first day," Peter said.
"You two just have to accept the fact he is what other children are. Feeding him at his twelve, it's probably there. Unless he isn't that kind of child, who heals in a magical way. With no complications," the doctor nodded.
"Our child's life is ruined?!" Sarah looked at the doctor. Then sighed. "He is our little boy and we will try everything to make his life easy,".
"We believe you two," Doctor had a smirk on the face. "But there isn't only beautiful people out there. Like us. Like you,".
"Agree with you. Considering the people who hurt our Jim," Peter said.
"Yeah... I'm so sorry to say this but you just had to know it," Doctor answered.
The nurse walked the wheelchair back to the parents and doctor.
"He is like a piece of gold," the nurse smiled.
"We know it" Sarah smirked at her.
"Jim really loves the paper planes and birds," the nurse looked at Sarah. "He really adores them,".
Sarah and Peter looked Jim like on the first day they got him. When he was born. Peter felt tears on his eyes, so did her wife. That kind of wonderful moment brought back all the good memories.
"Plane..." Jim said, looking up to the sky. Trying to catch swallows that flew as big circle.
"The swallow, Jim. Birds..." Sarah squatted next to Jim's wheelchair. "Wonderful, isn't it?".
Jim stared at his mother and smiled widely. He seemed really happy and Sarah felt the deep relief inside of her. It seemed Jim found Sarah as a real friend if not as a mother. Jim was satisfied with Sarah' touches. He didn't take her hands off him.
"Birds..." Jim smiled widely, looking at his mother.
"And paper planes, my son," Sarah whispered. Enjoying every second of the moment with her son.
