'We can stop here so you can get some rest.' Legolas suggested and looked away from the happy bird that flew around his shoulders to look at me. 'I don't need to rest yet.' I lied and looked at the long way that was in front of us. Legolas stopped walking, but I continued stubbornly. 'We'll never rescue Herdith if we keep stopping.' I said but Legolas grabbed my wrist and pushed me softly to the ground. 'What do you mean with "keep stopping"? We have not taken a break all day. And you really need to rest.' He stared at me with a worried look in his eyes. 'Come. Sleep.' He said and I nodded. 'We can rest for a while, but I won't sleep yet.' I looked at the sky that was slowly losing its light, making place for a grand moon and a couple stars around it. Yes, the night fell. And I wasn't planning on sleeping this night: I wanted to attack.

We rested, ate and drank for a while. I had told Legolas about how I had met Maethorion and they had instantly become friends. Legolas ripped off a bit of bread for the little bird and he ate it happily. Even though the bread was a bit old, Maethorion ate everything as long as it wasn't a berry. Legolas petted Maethorion's soft feather-covered belly and smiled at the little bird. He looked up and saw me staring at him. Our eyes met and I recognized the same look I had seen in his eyes when we kissed. For a moment I heard the symphony start again, but it was disturbed by a loud laughing sound. It was an extremely loud and low sound.

'What was that?' I asked Legolas who looked around with a wary eye. 'Trolls.' He muttered with hate in his voice. 'Trolls? Here?' I said and looked around too. The tick trees and red leaves made it almost impossible to look into the far distance. Again we heard the laugh-like sound and we assumed that the Trolls were not far away from us. And that frightened the little Maethorion. He hid away in Legolas's hair. The Elf chuckled sweetly and took the bird in his hand. 'Don't worry. Trolls might be big and strong, but they are also incredibly stupid.' He reassured the bird. 'We will fight them with ease.' He added and looked at me. I nodded at him and we rose to resume our quest. Whether we would or wouldn't encounter Trolls, we'll resucue Herdith no matter what.

And we did encounter them. They were making dinner in the woods, sitting around a chopped tree where a big cauldron was placed on. A strange coloured liquid was floating in the cauldron and I assumed it was supposed to be some sort of soup. The smell that rose from the 'soup' into the air and to my nose was horrible and almost made Legolas faint. I caught him before he could fall to the ground and ripped off a bit of my clothes so he could keep that close to his nose.

'Maethorion, go away from here. Too much of this smell could kill a small creature like you.' I said. The bird protested: he wanted to be around and help us. But I looked sternly at him and the little bird flew away. 'Okay,' I said to Legolas, 'we have to get passed these Trolls.' He agreed with a nod. 'have you got a plan?' He asked. 'Yes, I do.' I answered and a sly smile curled on my lips. 'Attack!' I screamed and ran to the Trolls with my weapon in the air. But the Trolls didn't even see me: I was too small for them. These Trolls were a kind I had never seen before: they were much bigger and their eyes coloured the same shade of red as the leaves they used as decoration around their wrists. They were slimy and their legs were as tick as trees. They didn't hear my warscream and had not seen me. I had clearly underestimated their kind. As I realised that these Trolls were nothing like the Trolls I knew and could easily fight, the fear that these creatures could be very clever hit me. I stood there, frozen, looking at the five great monsters that stared into the cauldron without noticing me. I didn't know what to do.

One of the Trolls noticed me. 'Hey, look at that creature over there!' He said. But the creature did not look at me, nor did he point at me, I followed the thick slimy finger and saw Legolas looking surprised at the Troll that had noticed him. 'It's an Orc!' The Troll shouted happily. 'We can cook him!' He added like a child who just got an idea what to ask for his birthday. 'That's no Orc, fool, that's a Human.' Another Troll said and reached out an enormous arm to grab Legolas. He spun his bow but before he could attack, he already found himself in the slimy hand of the Troll. He trew away his bow, afraid that the Troll would break it if he kept it.
