Legolas moved away some branches of the Mirkwood forest. 'And?' I asked. 'Nothing. No spiders to be seen. If we go quickly, we might get home unseen.' That sounded like a great plan to me. So we moved through the forest, sometimes on the path, sometimes we jumped from branch to branch high in the trees. This forest was so known to us, we knew every tree and every branch by heart. Swiftly and smoothly we made our way through the sick part of the woods but quickly found the beautiful part again. It was wonderful to be home. The poisonous red forest was gone now, it had been replaced by the most beautiful place on Middle-Earth. Not only because of the green leaves and all the sweet living creatures, not only because of the well-known fresh smell and the beautiful rays of sunlight that fell through the trees in perfect harmony. Not only because of the symphony of sounds that I adored so much, but mainly because this was the place where Legolas felt home and wherever he was, was my home.
Suddenly the Elf stopped moving and we both gazed upon the magnificence of the Woodland Realm. 'Home,' Legolas said, 'we have returned to our home.'
We ran to the grand gate of Mirkwood. Feren just came out of it. 'Prince Legolas! Your father is searching for you. He has sent several groups of Elves to find you!' Feren said and ran over to Legolas, hugging him tightly. 'I was so worried.' He admitted sweetly. 'And you! Welcome back! I am truly happy that you are unharmed.' Feren said and hugged me tightly too. 'Come and speak with your father,' he spoke and once again turned to Legolas, 'I believe he wishes to see you.' After that was said, Feren took his horn and blew on it, causing a loud sound to hurt my ears. 'The Elves will know that you have returned home.' He explained and let us go through the gate. I felt some nervosity growing in me and Legolas noticed. He took my hand in his as we entered the throne room. 'Don't worry, I am here beside you.' He said and bestowed upon me a sweet smile.
I let go of his hand as we entered the throne room where Thranduil sat. He was dressed in some sort of grey satin and had his legs crossed. On an open red velvet-like cloak fell his long white locks and his crown with a hint of red leaves in it decorated his kingly head. He looked up when we entered and his worried eyes quickly changed, now he showed us a questioning look. He didn't smile.
'Legolas, I see you have decided to return to me, after all this time. Now, tell me, why were you in such hurry to decide not to leave any message at all?' He said sternly. 'I was on a quest, now I have returned.' Legolas answered.
'A quest?' Thranduil asked and rose from his majestic throne. 'Well, well, my son is going on quests now. With her?' He asked and pointed at me with his head. I felt very miserable and bowed my head a bit. 'Yes, with her. I wouldn't have chosen someone else even if I could choose from every single being here in Middle-Earth. She is one of the main reasons why I have returned. If I went alone, I would have died in battle.' I heard Legolas's voice sounding clearly through the Mirkwood Halls. 'Is that so?' Thranduil asked and walked over to me, lifting my head up with his finger. I stared into his blue eyes that resembled so much with Legolas's, only did this pair pierce through all my being and made me feel so sad. 'Then I think I owe you a 'thank you'.' He said.
'Are you not happy to see me?' Legolas asked his father with a slightly trembling voice. He probably had expected a warmer welcome. Thranduil turned his head to his son. 'Happy to see you?' He said. 'Legolas, I...' He stopped talking and ran the few steps he was separated from his son. He wrapped his arms around his son and hugged him tightly. 'After our fight I... I didn't think you would return to me.' Thranduil whispered. 'Well, I have, father.' Legolas said. Thranduil let him go out of his embrace. 'Why? Why have you come back?' He said, not understanding why anyone would return after all those cruel words he had spoken. 'Because you are my father...' he said and I punched Legolas softly. '...and I love you.' Legolas added. His words made Thranduil smile. His smile turned into grinning, his grinning into a loud child-like laugh. 'Oh dear Legolas, I love you too.'
