Home Sweet Home

On the drive home I was happy, and as I look out at the scenery that was passing by us, I forgot about my life and was able to enjoy the serenity that I feel being surrounded by mother nature. When the surroundings start changing into things that I remember from my past I was even happier knowing that I was finally coming home, where I belonged.

My happiness lasted until we parked the car in the long driveway, and everyone starts leaving their seats in the vehicle. That's when I came back down to earth and all the pain and trauma that I had recently gone through reintroduced itself to the front of my brain.

Moira was holding onto the chair that Alex was currently helping Charles back into, and Libby had gone outside moving around the vehicle, opening the door, so that she could make sure that I didn't try to run away. I undid my seatbelt slowly and take my sisters outstretched hand, holding onto it as tightly as I can.

Alex reaches into the trunk of the car and takes all our bags while the rest of us trail behind him at our own pace into the mansion. Moira pushes herself ahead so that she can open the front doors for us, and I pause just inside the doorway looking at everything as if I was seeing it for the first time. And in a way, I guess I am seeing everything for the first time again, I'm just looking at everything around me in a different perspective than I had been before.

I guess being in as dangerous of a situation as we had been in Cuba can really open your eyes to all the things that you didn't notice before that you have to be grateful for.

Libby squeezes my hand and I look down at her, giving her a smile nudging her with our linked hands. She gives me a grin in return as we continue walking behind everyone else back to our home.

The five of us enter the living room and were shocked at the sight. Sean was slouching against the couch; with all of his attention on the television screen in front of him and continues to play his game not even realizing that we had come home.

"Seriously man, I told you to clean this up before we brought everyone home." Sean jumps in surprise at the sound of Alex's voice, but he continues playing his game nevertheless.

"And I told you that I would as soon as Violet comes back, but by the way that you were talking it sounds like she's still going to be a while before she's ready too..."

"Sean..." "Banshee..." This time it was my turn to jump in surprise at the tone change in everyone's voices and it causes Sean to look up as well.

"What?" He asks innocently. His gaze then lands on me and he smiles. I give him a small one in return before I turn my gaze back towards my feet shyly. "Violet, welcome home."

"Hi Sean, thanks."

"We're all glad that your home, we all missed you." His tone was softer now than it had been moments ago.

I wonder what caused him to change his attitude so suddenly.

"Thanks, it's good to be back." I look up at him giving him another small smile before looking away again.

But while my gaze was moving downwards, I notice little bits of food that are still in a takeout container that look like it was starting to change colors, it reminded me... reminded me of... of...

I release Libby's hand and run towards the kitchen sink to release my large breakfast from the hospital. Moira must have been hot on my heels because she grabbed my hair and expertly placed it in a bun on my head and rubbed circles on my back after she was done playing with my hair, hoping that she would be able to comfort me.

Tears are running down my face from the burning sensation that is running up through my esophagus, but still, Moira continues rubbing my back until I'm finished letting everything out.
