At the base of the bridge, I urge Ciel and Sebastian to go up without me, which seemed to surprise them. I merely smiled and promised I'd join them when the time was right, leaving an ominous air to my words. Neither asked what my plans were exactly, nor did they argue. All that seemed to matter was that they knew I was on their side of this fight.

"Good luck," I called out as Sebastian picked up the young Earl to carry him up the ladder. "Not that you need it." The demon smirked and dipped his head lightly in thanks before continuing his way up. The distorted faces peeking out from the structure of the bridge wailed and groaned in agony, becoming my only company once they were out of sight. I remained in the boat, finding the gentle rocking of the water comforting through all the chaos as I honed in on the echoes coming from above. If I listened closely, I could hear parts of their conversation with Ash and the clanging of metal as they began their fight. The sky darkened as the blackened hearts of humanity clouded the sky with a foreboding sigil, while I remained, biding my time as I thought through the plan again, Lloyd's suggestion buzzing in the back of my mind.

Ash has caused a lot of pain to so many people. Hearing their fused faces in the bridge crying and screaming was enough to make me shake. He tortured and manipulated the people I care for, and more than likely had tried to use me for his own benefit at some points as well. I thought of the way he'd smile at me with interest and felt sour because of it. My plan wasn't to let him die, but the angel would surely suffer. Then, maybe, just maybe, there would be something to salvage after.

I jumped in fright when I heard a loud explosion up above, the rubble crashing down into the waters below, causing me to get out of the boat before the waves could wash me away. Craning my neck upwards, my eyes widened when I saw Ciel hanging off the side of the bridge, holding on for dear life.

That's my cue. I climb up the ladder quickly to reach them, careful of my footing as I got close enough to hear their voices clearly.

"Master, can you last long enough for me to count down from ten?" Sebastian asked as blinding flashes of light emerged through the billowing smoke. The sigil above had disappeared with the reapers' help, giving us an edge on the situation. I'm almost at the top now. Ciel's dangling form was nearby, but I wouldn't be able to help him.

"Yes!" He called back, clearly struggling to find the strength to hold on.

"Then, here we go." The air around us shuddered as Sebastian began his countdown.

"Ten." A spray of blood and feathers shot through the air, making me curse and move faster. "Nine." Right as I reached the top, I screamed out in a glitching voice.
