Last night when I checked on my salamander I found him dead, and I feel so horrible. I tried to take the best care of him possible, and yet I failed. He was such a sweet little guy, full of energy at meal time and being a potato when he was full. Emma Rose, my kitty just adored him and whenever I got him out she would gently sniff at him and sometimes reach out a paw. Before bed she would climb up onto my dresser and sit on top of his cage. Chazzy lived up to his species name "tiger salamander" with his voracious chomps at his food and how he loved water and lounged around without a care in the world. He was loved dearly by me and my kitty. Here are some pictures to honor his memory. He will be missed.
Whenever Emma got near Chazzy I made sure he was safe and that she didn't try to hurt him. She was always very gentle with him.
I used the photo below as the base for the cover of my book Alike: A Novel from the Valdt and I doubt I will ever change it because that way he can live on in the hearts of my readers.
R. I.P. Chazzy, August 2015 to August 2017. He was at least 5 to 8 years old already because he was a record size salamander and I gave him a safe and secure life away from predators and danger, giving him lots of love and plenty of food. I don't think I will ever forget the day I rescued him and took him in. He has always been such a sweet boy.
