Chapter Fourteen- The Escape

"I need both of you up here now," I heard Dee yell down to us in the cellar, as he opened up the door and pushed down the stairs. I was surprised that he hadn't come down to tell us that, but Tabby and I got up and climbed the stairs anyways.

"The kitchen and bathrooms need to be cleaned, I expect them to be done before Renn comes back today," he harshly told, pushing Tabby and I into the kitchen off the main room and told us to get started. Staring out into the trashed white and black kitchen, I was surprised that there was such a mess considering how clean the other room was.

I didn't ask questions though, yet instead grabbed a sponge and began cleaning the checkered floors as Tabby cleaned up the garbage thrown about. There were no windows in the small kitchen we cleaned, which ruled out that as a way to escape.

Turning to see where Dee was, I noticed him sitting in the living room watching something on the TV, a gun placed on the arm rest beside him. Turning back to Tabby, I knew she was watching him from the corner of her eye, and that she most likely was thinking the same thing I was. Get the gun and get out.

"Why don't you do this?" I asked out loud, dropping my sponge and looking to Dee. Facing me in his chair, his face was crinkled with anger and annoyance as he got up and stomped his way over.

"How dare you ask me such a question," he yelled, kicking me into the corner of the room. "Renn should have killed you off when he had the chance!" he screamed again, spit flying out from his mouth and onto my cheeks until suddenly he stopped and everything froze. He stood still in front of me, before dropping to his knees and falling effortlessly onto the floor.

"Let's go!" Tabby said, the gun placed in her hands after she had just shot Dee. Trying to process what had actually happened, I faltered at getting up, but with Tabby helping I eventually got on my feet. "We need to get out before Renn gets home," she told me, making me nod and grab the gun from her hands.

"Toby showed me how to use it, I can take it from here," I spoke, knowing that she shouldn't have to be responsible for anything else until we fully escape. It was now my job to get her out of here.

"What in the hell happened here!" I heard someone yell as they came into the house, making me grab the handgun from Tabby and push her into the living room with me.

Hiding behind the couch, we watched as Renn came into the kitchen to find Dee dead on the floor; a pool of blood covering his body. Rushing over to him, Renn seemed to care for Dee only in that moment and exclaimed over what had happened. I didn't listen to him, though, as he yelled to the God's for killing his brother, although I wasn't too sure if they were actually related.

Standing up from behind the couch, I pointed the gun straight to Renn's back and closed my eyes. All was silent then, as only the deep breaths that I took to calm myself were heard. All the memories of him hurting me and all the thoughts of him hurting those other girls were the only things I was trying to think about; no matter how painful they were to remember.

I wanted my hatred for him to ooze out of me like lava from a volcano and burn him as I pulled the trigger. However, when I opened my eyes to do the act, Renn was already on the floor: dead with Dee. Thoughts racing, I didn't understand what was going on, until I felt someone grab my waist and turn me around. Head a dizzy mess, my hearing was still gone as I looked up to see Toby standing before me. His lips were moving as he spoke, but I couldn't hear his voice.

"Where's Tabby," I spoke, not really in a question, but more like a statement. Toby pointed over to the door, making me look over to see her talking with three other police officers and a few more that were now just coming in. "What's going on?" I wondered again, looking back to Toby as my hearing came back slowly and I heard him tell me everything was going to be alright.

I hugged him tighter than I thought was possible then, as tears escaped my eyes like Tabby and I had just done. "You found us, you found us," I said out of breath to Toby, as he rubbed my back carefully.

"I never gave up, Hope, I love you," he told, as I released from our hug and looked back to him. Did he just say- All within the instant he kissed me, cutting my thoughts from anything else and pulling me into new thoughts that only revolved around him.

"I love you too," I told as his lips moved from mine and the world slowed just a second more so I could appreciate all that was going on.

Grabbing my hand, Toby led me over to Tabby and held both her and I in his arms. Looking out over Toby's shoulders I watched as the police investigated the house, leaving the two dead bodies in the kitchen alone as if nothing ever happened. I glanced over to Tabby on the other side of Toby, noticing that she too was watching in fear that if she closed her eyes...something more was bound to happen.

"Let's get you two to the hospital," Toby told, putting his arm around Tabby and myself as the police escorted us to their cars.
