I walked slowly into the entrance of the skating rink. My dad pushed me in, impatient to have me start on my lessons. I stumbled forward and picked up my pace. The weight of all my bags were already weighing me down and anxiety pushed me further.

I have never ice skated before and I'm not very open to new ideas. I have to stay in my comfort zone and if I try to step out, my anxiety pulls me back in.

I was never allowed to ice skate, it being ruled out by my mother. Even though she was a legendary ice skater herself, she made sure I never ice skated. Sadly, she passed away after she won the Grand Prix Finals with a gold medal. After her death, my dad pushed me to be like her; rich and popular, but it was clear that wouldn't happen with the way I followed the rules.

But today, I'm about to break my mum's rule. My dad forced me to take ice skating lessons from my uncle. He, too, was an amazing ice skater. He reminded me so much of my mother; they could've been twins if she wasn't four years older than him.

I walked into the cold environment and cold air immediately slammed into my face. I looked around, taking in my new surroundings, and I saw my uncle twirling elegantly around the rink. I walked forward some more and leaned against the wall that circled the ice. I placed my bags down and folded my hands together, watching as his skates left his trace.

After a while, I smiled and yelled, "Uncle Viktor!" He immediately stopped and turned around to see my excited waving. He smiled and gracefully started to skate towards me.

I felt my dad's presence come closer behind me and my body stiffened.

Uncle Viktor stopped in front of me with a graceful cease, causing the ice around him to fly out of his way. "Oh, Y/nnnnn!" He smiled even bigger and engulfed me in a hug over the rink wall. I loosely hugged him back and my breath shortened as he squeezed me.

He let go, putting his hands on my shoulders and looking at me. "You're growing up to be so much like your mother! I'm so happy for you!" I gave him a small smile before I heard my dad cough pointedly.

Uncle Viktor looked at my dad and his smile faltered. "Hello, F/n." He let go of my shoulders and his arms fell by his side.

"Hello, Viktor," my dad's unenthusiastic voice grunted.

I saw Uncle Viktor's expression harden. "What brings you here?"

"I'm here to have Y/n take lessons for ice skating. I want her to start and I don't want her to take ice skating from a regular teacher so I brought her here." I felt his hand on my shoulder.

"I thought Y/n was not allowed to go ice skating because of M/n's rule?"

"Well, M/n isn't here anymore so that rule no longer exists and because of that, I'm in charge."

I stared intently at the ground and began to play with my fingers in the tension-filled space.  Uncle Viktor's voice came up again, "I'm sorry but I'm not going to go against her rule so I won't be teaching her."

My dad squeezed my shoulder, hard. "Viktor-," Before he could continue, Uncle Viktor cut him off, "I'll have someone else teach her. I am in no right to tell her what she has to do or what to do. You're the father, so I will respect your wishes."

The grip on my shoulder loosened and I heard a smirk in his chuckle. "Good. I'm leaving her here and I'll be back at 8:00." I looked up at Uncle Viktor and he nodded at my dad.

"Come on, Y/n." Uncle Viktor walked me to an office-like room with a window, holding his arm behind my back, and we went inside.

I saw a blond boy with long hair, a small bit taller than me, on his phone.

Uncle Viktor walked me to him slowly, minding my nervousness, and that caught the boy's attention. He tilted his head up away from his phone and looked up at both of us with a scowl.

"Y/n, meet Yurio. He will be the one who's going to teach you how to ice skate!"
