Fall has passed and opened its doors for winter and Jisoo couldn't leave her house without a coat and gloves anymore, preferably a beanie and a scarf also on her head and around her neck. Jungkook and she had almost grown inseparable over the last season. He was always visiting her as much as he could, taking strolls through the woods or relaxing in her room when her mother was not home. He never stayed, when her mother would come home if she did he would hurriedly flee through her window that was level to the ground. It was hard for Jisoo to see him go like that every time. She didn't know, why he always acted this way, was he ashamed of being with her? Was he scared? She didn't know that it hurt Jungkook just as much when he left because he felt how sad it made her and he never wanted to be the reason for her sadness.

Her mother almost didn't believe her, when Jisoo came home that night, after staying at the cabin when the werewolf attacked her. It was hard to make her believe that she was convinced by a dark haired boy to stay the night at his cabin in the woods after a werewolf attack. A more logical explanation would have been her having a secret boyfriend with whom she stayed the night. Jisoo had to endure a lot of screaming and crying from her parent before she could even prove her words with the small scars on her thigh. Then her mother was silent, looking at the remains of teeth mark with teary eyes. "Oh my god" she had sobbed, sitting down in her seat, afraid of fainting at the spot.

"Why did this happen?" she asked herself, an unknown grief in her eyes that Jisoo could not understand. "His family are hunters, they saved me" she had said, her voice just as fragile as her mother's. "You promised me never to go into the woods" the woman whispered, the betrayal evident in her broken voice. Jisoo gulped, she had forgotten about the promise altogether. "I-I'm really sorry, I forgot about that. I was just so curious... I had never been in the forest before, I-," she cut herself off. I am so sorry. There was nothing she could say to justify her reckless behavior, especially since she was almost killed. Her head hung low, the guilt eating her alive.

"I only have you left, don't do this to me ever again" her mother cried and Jisoo nodded. She wouldn't give up the new world she discovered by walking in the woods, but she would be more careful now, sticking with Jungkook on her quests, with him she was safe, she was sure of that.

"We're friends, aren't we?" Jisoo suddenly asked as she was sitting cross-legged on her bed, addressing Jungkook's back that was facing her. The boy turned around in surprise by her sudden question. "Mates even" he joked, but Jisoo still didn't get it, even three months after the initial joke at his cabin. He put the DVD in the DVD player and then joined her by her side on the bed. "Why do you ask?" Jisoo studied Jungkook's expression, afraid of his reaction. "Why do you always leave when my mother comes home?" she asked him finally and Jungkook's heart sank in his chest. He looked down at their hands, only inches apart from each other on her mattress. "I feel like I am doing something wrong, every time you leave like this. That you don't want anyone to know we are friends or something. Are you ashamed of me? It's the only explanation I can come up with, it just doesn't make sense to me" Jisoo had started rambling at this point, but she was quickly shut up by Jungkook with a hand on her mouth.

His facial expression had changed, anger and something similar to hurt overtaking his handsome features. "Don't ever say something like that again, understood? I don't want you to think of yourself like that! You are beautiful, funny, caring and so many more things. I could never be ashamed of you, so don't ever say that again!" Her heart fluttered in her chest with his words, but she didn't want to show him that and angrily shoved his hand away. "Then why do you flee like a scared chicken every time my mom comes home?" she countered, crossing her arms over her chest.

Jungkook seemed hurt by her rude action and his hand fell lifelessly to his side. "I don't..." he tried to defend himself, but she was right, of course. He sighed. "It's just... I'm usually not seen in the town, nobody knows me by appearance or name and the questions she would ask... I wouldn't know what to answer to them" he finally confessed. Jisoo looked taken aback by his answer, she didn't possibly imagine that as the reason. "How do you have a full refrigerator, when you don't leave the woods?" she asked, amazed by their lifestyle. "I don't say we don't leave the forest, it's just that I don't. My noonas are frequently seen at the market" he explained with a small smile.

"Are you still mad?" he asked then, his voice fragile, scared of his mate's reaction. He didn't like fighting with her, it made his inner wolf curl himself in sadness and he just wanted to whimper like a kicked puppy. This feeling was all so new to him, he didn't want to lose it over something so stupid and since she wasn't a werewolf like him, he had to build a lot of trust for her to not freak out when he finally tells her his secret. The chance of her rejecting him was still so high, he was scared constantly he would end up alone, like his hyung. He could still remember the pain, when Namjoon came home, without his mate.

He left for days after that, the only indication that he was still alive was the constant howling and the dead deer sprawled through the forest. Jungkook and Taehyung had to clean up after him at that time. He never wanted to feel the same hurt his hyung had to experience. It took Namjoon months to recover, to stop whining after her and focus on his pack again and even then he still missed her greatly. A mate-bond was for life, it was impossible to move on completely.

"I'm not mad at you... I'm sorry, Jungkookie" she finally said, a small smile gracing her beautiful lips and a huge grin broke on the boy's face. "Let's watch the movie then, shall we?" he proposed gleefully and tugged Jisoo to his side, pressing play on the remote.

Now that Jisoo knew the truth, she didn't mind her best friend leaving so rushed anymore. She even walked him to the edge of the forest now, hugging him goodbye and Jungkook placed a small kiss on her hairline every time. And when Jisoo went to sleep at night, sometimes she imagined a beautiful dark wolf lying beneath her window, keeping her safe and she smiled in her half-awake state, as she wasn't scared of the wolf in her dreams, because it reminded her of Jungkook.
