Ten days before his twenty third birthday, Colin accidentally walked himself into a job, well, as it would turn out to be, it would less of a happy accident and even less of a fortuitous moment. Word of experiences very personal to him were discussed in places unbeknown to him and such is what life so happens to be.
As things stand at this current time, Colin had not particularly been looking for a job. Circumstance were such that he could afford himself some time before job seeking would become something necessary, but since work had come his way he thought ... why not? He hadn't anything else in the way of work lined up for the near future and he could definitely do with putting a little more aside as a just in case. So, there was absolutely no reason for him not to think, ... why not?
The job would be three towns over so that to him was as much a plus as it was a minus. The town his mum is buried in is one he has known as home for such a short period of time when his age had yet to reach double digits. He doesn't think pf that place as home at all despite the memories he has of the place.
Yeah, he remembers the store where he often had ice cream, Natalia and Cecilia knew it as home and Colin returned there when he turned eighteen. At this moment in time, Colin didn't know much about Natalia and had no idea he'd ever come into contact with Cecila again.
As it is, however, where he would rather hang his hat, if he were to have one to hang, is the small coastal town he had moved to with mum when he was twelve and had stayed within until the most horrid of days had come round. That alone should give him reason to hate the place though that is not the case.
He had been placed back in that old town where mum is buried and not the one with the lighthouse, though now here in the town three towns over from the cemetery, Colin had no kind of accommodation in which he could stay, or so he thought. The job which had come his way, he did want to take it since it kinda landed on his lap. What he would find out upon arrival was that he would have nothing to worry about, well no worries, that is, about having a roof over his head.
What this job entails is basically anything goes. His newly acquired position was within an upper-class hotel, a place where the wealthy and sometimes famous come to stay. If Colin is expected to be a bell hop, or be of aid to reception, or even tasked with anything in the bar area or kitchen area then he'd be happy enough with that being what he'd be doing, for a limited time at least.
His pay will be well above average so any task asked of him he will be at least willing to try, any task that is other than the one he is really being hired for and that task is something he certainly was unprepared for. He is in a position to be ready to do it, he is capable of doing it, he just doesn't particularly want to do it, nor has he been straight out asked to do it.
For at this point in his life, Colin saw his gift as being more of a curse than anything else, it is also something he had been keeping to himself, so someone somewhere apparently seemed to know something. With such a thought in full flow there would be nothing all so strange with this job just happening to land on his lap.
There would be a weeklong trial run in this hotel before his position may become a little more permanent such is a stipulation with many a position, Colin would be alright with that. This made it seem that things were legit. Nothing illegal would come though no assurances would be made in fear something would be given away a little too soon.
Sure, in Colin's mind, if his gift were to interfere to a point where he is not happy with it, well ...he'd be moving on anyway. An added benefit to this job would be for the duration of the week, Colin would have a room of his own within the hotel. If his position were to become a little more permanent, then he would be assigned digs nearby. At first, Colin would definitely be alright with this but, once again, his current distain for his 'gift' would indeed soon change things.
