Recap:
Fuck, those coffee brown eyes are gonna kill me, aren't they?
harry's pov
Walking down the stairs, I found Gemma sitting on the couch, waiting for me to finish getting ready.
I gave her a tiny smile, running down the stairs before successfully making my way towards where she was seated. "Alright, come on then." I tried my best not to seem pathetic in front of my sister, I wanted to be strong for her, and I just wanted to be Harry, her brother who she would always annoy, and who would take her out just so we could bond.
I rested my hand on Gemma's back, guiding her outside to my car so I could take her there. I opened the door to the passenger's seat for her, a weak smile forming my lips as I closed the door shut before I went towards the driver's seat.
"Harry, how are you holding up?" I just stared at the road, shrugging as I continued to drive to the part of town where the shop was located. Gemma had tried to make small talk with me, but when she realized I wasn't really in the mood to talk, she dropped it, and instead she scrolled through her phone, deciding on what music to play in the car.
The beginning of 'Walking on Sunshine' started to play, and Gemma was dancing on her side of the car. She tapped on my knee before she spoke. "Oh come on, it's our song. You've got to sing with me." And so I did.
And for the first time in a long time, I actually smiled for real, and I was actually happy. It was just me and Gemma, brothers and sisters, singing one of our favourite song in the car together.
"Here we are." I parked the car in a vacant parking space before leading Gemma inside the shop. It was aesthetically pleasing to look at, and we walked over the counter to order the drinks.
The people who served here weren't as breath taking as Ariana.
Quit it, Harry. Forget about her.
"Pick a drink for me, Gem." I grinned at her, telling her I'd look for a seat for us before taking a vacant table near the window, waiting for Gemma to return. And while she was gone, my mind raced back to Ariana.
I groaned, banging my head on the table as I shook my head. Stop it. No matter what I do or what I see, it always seemed to remind me of Ariana.
"Here we go." Gemma placed a colourful looking drink in front of me, making me tilt my head to observe what the hell was going on in my drink. "Not to be a nosey sister, but tell me how you're feeling, Harry. I may annoy you a lot, but I'm still your sister, and I still care about you."
I sighed, knowing she'd be asking me about what I felt sooner or later. I took a sip off the milkshake in front of me before I glanced over to where Gemma was sat.
"I don't know, Gem. It's just, I thought I had a chance. And it really hurts, you know, thinking you have a chance, when you really don't." I looked down at my feet, and my legs had started to shake again.
"Do you regret it?"
"What?"
"Do you regret going after the woman you've loved for so long?"
"I don't know." My voice shook, and my breath had hitched. "Just because me and Ariana didn't work out, that doesn't mean I regret having her in my life. It doesn't mean I regret all those fun moments with her." The words burned in my throat as I spoke them. "I just wished we worked out."
"Harry, don't give up on her just yet."
"Gem, you don't know what you're talking about. It just... it hurts." And my voice broke, and I shook my head when I felt the tears pool on my eyes. "It hurts here." I pointed at my heart, sniffing as she went over to hold me in her arms.
"Hey, look at me. Remember the time when I told you me and Ari would go shopping together?" She waited for me to respond, and I nodded my head.
"We talked about you, and I asked if she fancied you. And she told me she wouldn't use the word 'fancy' to describe how she felt about you. And when she tried to think of a word to describe how she felt about you, I got her answer. It was in the way she smiled when she thought of you, the way her eyes squinted. It was the way she blushed when I told her I knew she fancied you, and she tried to laugh it off, but I saw it."
"B-But..."
"Sh.. and when she told me you were just a close friend, it was the way she paused for a moment before saying 'close friend' when I found my answer. And I just know, I know she likes you. And I might not know what happened there at the horror house, and why she went away, and why you two started to argue, I know you're right for one another."
"Sh-She's had a bad past."
"See, maybe that's why she said those things about you. Maybe she's just scared to have her heart broken once again. Maybe, once upon a time, she met someone like you who she thought she could trust, and she learned it the hard way. But Harry, time has turned. And once upon a time, she met you. Not someone like you. She met you. And she's doubting if she could trust you the way she trusted before. You just have to prove it, Harry. You have to show her you're not backing down. You have to show her you're not like everyone else. You're Harry, my super awesome, sweet brother, who is so in love with a girl, and I know you can treat her right."
Gemma had never been this deep with her words before. Anytime I'd have a problem, she'd usually leave mum to talk to me about it, but I'm thankful for this. I'm thankful for what she's saying. She's right. I have to prove to Ariana that I'm not like the guys she's dated.
"I see the way you look at each other, and I've never seen so much love being bottled up into two people. Make it work, Harry. There's nothing more tragic in the world than having two people who love each other so much, and have it not work out. So go get her."
And I nodded. I took in all of her words, and I understood.
Ariana's worth fighting for.
