Could this day get any worse?

I was standing at the principal's doorway, wide-eyed. Out of all people in earth, Amanda Emerson had to be the headmistress in my school?

Just my luck.

I was lost in my thoughts when Mrs. Emerson barked out, "Now, why are you standing there, staring at me like an idiot? Come in!"

I entered the office, taking in my surroundings. The new principal had already put herself up in the office- every corner of the room was filled with accolades and awards for teaching, frames of rules and discipline, and so on. In short, it clearly hints that this teacher is not to be messed with.

"So..." she broke the silence," I've heard that you have made quite an impression of yourself on the first day itself. First off, you insult our school cheerleading outfit, which i admit, is a bit indecent," she scrunched up her nose," and I plan to amend that. But that doesn't give you the liberty to humiliate our cheerleaders!"

If it would have been any other teacher, I would have tried to reason that Emily was the one who incited it, but I didn't even bother with Mrs. Emerson, because I know she is not going to listen to me.

I was struggling for an appropriate response when my mom came in. Mrs. Emerson's scowl immediately turned into a bright smile. It was really strange that this teacher, who loathes me, would be one of the closest friends of my mom.

"Em!" Mrs. Emerson's gravelly voice turned honey sweet, "How are you? Your transfer here went well?"

"Hey, Amanda! I'm doing great. New York, till now is totally amazing... How about you?"

"Well, my new job is quite tiring. Handling teenagers," she glanced at me," is not an easy task, you know."

"That is true; I've had quite a number of sleepless nights because of my two babies..."

"How's our dear Ellie?"

"Oh, Ellen is doing well. She just graduated from UW with a degree in fashion designing," my mom glowed with pride, "She is working in Vera Wang as a design intern right now."

"Oh, that's wonderful!" Mrs. Emerson beamed, "Soon, we'll see Ellen launching her own brand of clothes."

"Well, that's her dream..." Mom looked at me, "So...apart from the panic attack..." I rolled my eyes at this, "How did Sandy fare today?"

I nervously stared at my worn out Converses. I could feel Mrs. Emerson's stare, and I somehow knew that she was not going to bring up my squabble with Emily right now. She knew very well that my mom's health condition, and that she has been straining herself ever since my dad...

I don't want to go into that right now.

"She was perfect today, Em," she said. "I just called her in to check out if she's feeling okay."

I exhaled deeply and gave her a weak smile. I was greatly surprised when she gave a small smile in return, for the first time in four years.

Before I could recover from the shock, the smile vanished as soon as it appeared.

"That was so sweet of you, Amanda," my mother beamed, "I am so glad that Sandy is under your wing. If you could please excuse us, the both of us have something waiting for us at home." My mom looked at me with something in her eyes that I couldn't understand.

As we were about to exit the building, it struck me that I had left all my belongings in my locker. I told my mom to wait and rushed to grab my stuff.

As I was passing through the corridors, the school's prize room caught my eye. Intrigued, I started glancing through the impressive trophies. I was about to turn back, when I found a frame hanging at the end of the room. It was the picture of the school's football team holding, I recognized, the Inter State Football Trophy. As I looked closer, Luke's familiar face came into my view. I smirked to myself as I thought- Of course, I should have known.

My eyes travelled to the guy holding the trophy, it was obvious that he was the captain of the football team. Half of his face was obscured by the gigantic trophy. I was about to turn around when the captain's eyes came into my view.

Blue.

I struggled to keep myself standing.

Deep blue.

How could this be?

The eyes of my nightmares.

"I've been waiting for too long."

Those were not dreams.

It was real.

He exists.
